Reading Response: The Vagina Monologues
The Vagina Monologues is a play comprising episodes written by Eve Ensler. This play is mainly based on the monologues made by a large number of women about their genital organ named “Vagina.” The author herself is a woman, so she has a good knowledge of the main theme of the play. The monologues made by several women about their experience of sexual relationship and their perceptions about vagina (Ensler, 2007). Different women have different thinking about their vagina. Some have quoted, “My Angry Vagina”, “Because he liked to look at it”, My Vagina was my Village” and many more. The content of the play is quite realistic as it is based on the monologues made from the personal experiences of the women. From the reading, it has been inferred that women of different age and background have different feelings about their vagina. Young women, married women, lesbians, sex workers, all have their own views about their vagina. The work is formed in a structured and interesting ways to keep the interests of readers to a greater extent. At some places, the play gives a negative portrayal of the sexual relationship of males and females. In all it has been inferred from the reading that though vagina is the supreme embodiment of all the females, yet they take it in different ways.

Terrence Mc Nally’s Corpus Christi forays a multitude of onlookers as it deals with a very delicate and peculiar issue. The play projects the outrageous question of portraying Jesus Christ as gay. Depicting Christ as gay brings no difference to his fate which means he is deceived by Judas and is crucified for all to observe. The play, despite the rising controversies, passes the message of parity. But the spectators view the surface aspects of the play that creates the hullabaloo. The predestined minds of the viewers can never accept Christ as a homosexual and definitely consider the play as blasphemous. I personally oppose many factors in the play. The strong religious background never allows people like us to take a positive stance with the play. Christ is a popular and revered figure and to accept him as a human with all follies is something that requires a special and peculiar sense of spirit which is difficult to achieve. Jesus is born of immaculate conception and it is predestined that his life should be and certainly be immaculate. The mind set can never be altered with such ease and there is always a tendency to categorize the play as sacrilegious. There are still double sided opinions regarding homosexuality and yet there are debates as to whether it be regarded as natural or not. In any case, it is not fair to disturb the feelings of a sect of people. In my personal opinion, the play is disgraceful. The play’s apparent objective of upholding lenience by misportraying a venerated personality that Christians all around the globe reflect to be celestial needs to.

Yankee Tavern Review
The play was in ttu at 02.03.14 - 04:00. The Yankee Tavern play is filled with excitement and mystery and really amazing. Despite the fact it’s my first play I have watched the English version but I really enjoyed it a lot. The play was talking about 9/11 events that happened in New York in 2001. Yankee tavern focuses on events of September 11, 2001 when the terrorists hijacked four American planes where two of the planes where deliberately crashed into the World Trade Center Twin Towers in New York, one plane into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia and the last plane, which was attempted to be taken over by civilians aboard, crashed in a field in Shanksville Penssylvania. It happened in bar down in New York near the 2 towers. The play brings out the question of why the Pentagon was not protected by upgrading their security systems against terrorists attack even after facing initial attacks in New York
The play had only four characters namely: Ray who was a friend of Adams father, Adam who is a master’s Degree student in International Studies and inherited the bar and the hotel after his father committed suicide, Janet who is Adams fiancé and Palmer who is a strange man of few words and who had mystery surrounding him. Ray is a disturbed conspiracy theorist who believes everything is a conspiracy. While in the hotel, he talks to ghosts of the residents and theorizing on an abundance of conspiracies including the moon landing, murder of JKF, the Bay of Pigs, global warming and spore allergy attacks. When palmer comes into the bar and shares the information he had about the conspiracy, he changes the way Adam and Janet think. Ray implicates the owner if the World Trade Center, US government, Saudi princes and numerology. Concerning the murder of John F. Kennedy, many people wonder if Oswald was innocent or was the CIA responsible for that murder. Concerning the first moon landing, some people believe that footage was fabricated in the Hollywood and that the samples brought back from the moon were fake.
The characters see that their relationships are threatened and they are desperately trying to hang on to these relationships and save these relationships with each other. I think it’s real easy to see the play as having this sort of destructive world that is infringing upon these characters which makes them not trust each other and makes their relationship start to deteriorate. It was really interesting to me to see these people as the cause of what’s going on outside... It’s the idea that if we can be more honest in our relationships, if we can spend more time with the people we’re involved with and be more open and understanding and trust each other more, then I think the world wouldn’t be quite as messed up a place. The characters were pretty amazing and funny. Also the plot was super interesting that I couldn’t take my eyes off the stage. The decoration of the sta.

Yankee Tavern Review
The Yankee Tavern play is really amazing. Despite the fact it’s my first play I have watched in English but I really enjoyed it a lot. The play was talking about 9/11 events that happened in New York in 2001. It happened in bar down in New York near the 2 towers. The characters were pretty amazing and funny. Also the plot was super interesting that I couldn’t take my eyes off the stage. The decoration of the stage was pretty good it was well organized. The characters were living the personality of what they were performing. When the old man came in the bar he made the whole play, he was funny, his way of expressing his emotions. When he mentioned the conspiracy theories about the government have planned all of those events and the guy from the ally lost his passport and he was arrested of assassinated by the government. Overall of this play it was really amazing and I’m looking forward to watch more plays in English.

I went to performing arts center on Jan, 28,14. That was my first time that I attend a play in my life! It was a good experience. There was 6 women acting about a mother that bring a clothes for her daughter, and the girl didn’t like her clothes because she think it is an old style. The play was at 7:30pm and it ran to 9:30pm. The name of the play was LOVE, LOSS and WHAT I WORE. In my opinion, the play was good, and I liked it.

Out-door Show
On April, 26,2014, I went with Hussan ALmeels to Outdoor show. It was about; I think it is a cultural music. I saw yesterday many people dance in front of the music group. All of them were young. I think they were dancing cultural dance. I think it is cowboy dance. The show was at campus. I went there at 8:00pm, and it were done on 9:20. There were many people were setting on the grass, and watch them sons. It was at night. The weather was clear, and warm. I liked the music, but Hussan actually didn’t like it at all. In the show the parent were setting on the grass, and them sons were dancing. None of the parents were dancing. They were just watching the show. There were probably 90 people there. Before I went to the show I though it was a play. Like out-door play, but I surprised when I saw them singing. There were some songs that I like it, and there were some songs I didn’t like it at all. Actually, we set on the grass, and saw the show. It was really nice and new experience to Hussan and me. I took some picture for the show, and sent it to my parent in Kuwait, and they were surprised. They asked me what is that Aziz? I told them this is outdoor show, it is an event that the people of Cookeville do it from time to another time. They told me how much is the ticket cost. I told them it is free for all. They say wow we should visit you and see this show together. I also put some picture on Instagram (it is a program in I-phone) the people .

In the Showcase Theatre .
The play opens with the King having his Queen
and her lover put to death. He believes that
all women are unfaithful so he commands that
every night he will marry a virgin and that she
will die at dawn before she can betray him.
4. This goes on for some time until there are no
more virgins left except for the Vizier’s two young
daughters. The King commands him to bring his
oldest daughter and to come for her in the
morning with her burial shroud. Scheherazade is
brought by her father but she tells him not to
worry, that she has a plan. After the wedding
before they retire her younger sister pleas with
the King to allow her sister to tell her one last
story before she dies. The King agrees, but he
becomes so wrapped up in the exquisite way that

Schherezade tells the story he is unprepared
when she stops. He asks why she has stopped
and she tells him it is morning and her time to and
that her father is waiting. The King wants to hear
the ending of the story so he tells her father to
come back tomorrow. The next night she
finishes her story and as the King compliments
her on the story her young sister states that it is
okay but not as good as another story she has
told. The King bids her to tell the next story,
which is again not finished before daylight.
6. This continues on, with her stories teaching the
King about forgiveness, justice and love. By the
end of the play he has learned to love
Scheherezade and spares her life and she
remains his Queen.

The play is performed with a shallow
background and heaps of pillows on the floor
on the left and right sides, in front of the
audience. When not performing, this is where
the actors sit and lay, able to watch the
performance and interact when needed.

11. Interpretation
The play is performed in two acts. The first story
is of the Madman and Perfect Love. I felt this is
the best because without him realizing it at first, it
is the beginning of him learning to love and trust
again. With the story of the jester’s wife, with her
many lovers, he learns about forgiveness. The
story of the woman who out thinks all the wise
sages, he learns that women are important.
There is a fart joke thrown in for humor. And a
story of an empty bag, that depicts how far
greedy people will go.
12. All the stories are performed by actors and
actresses who with the addition of a hat, scarf,
cape, cane or prop can become someone else for
the story being told. Some of the stories had
some adult humor and some were risqué but over
all they are timeless when compared to today’s
society.
13. Evaluation
In my opinion the play was an astounding
success, as you can see from the signs on the
ticket window.
14. This was the first play where I got to see the
whole cast on the stage/floor and enjoyed
watching them watch the other actors perform.
The use of the stage and the props were
interesting in that everything visible had a
purpose. I liked the ending and the audience
participation in clapping for the best story. It had
special meaning to me because my son was an
actor in the play, he was the Madman and also
filled in other roles. Plus there were seniors that I
know and this was their last performance.

that they were part of the stories.

people to produce a play, countless rehearsals
and long hours of learning lines, places and
prompts. I really enjoyed the time I spent
watching the play, it took me to another time and
place and for a few brief hours I was entertained
by some very talented actors.
