1. WHO IS JESUS
CHRIST?
Mark 8:27-29 (NIV)
Peter Declares That Jesus Is The Messiah
27,
Jesus And His Disciples Went On To The Villages Around Caesarea Philippi. On The Way He Asked Them, “Who Do People Say I
Am?”
28,
They Replied, “Some Say John The Baptist; Others Say Elijah; And Still Others, One Of The Prophets.”
29,
“But What About You?” He Asked. “Who Do You Say I Am?”
Peter Answered, “You Are The Messiah.”
2. John 1:10-12
10,
He was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world
didn’t recognize him.
11,
He came to his own, and those who were his own didn’t receive him.
12,
But as many as received him, to them he gave the right to become God’s
children, to those who believe in his name:
3. ❑ Jesus has been acclaimed as the greatest religious leader who ever lived, as
being the most influential person to have lived on our planet, and as being
unique to the degree that no one can be compared to Him.
❑ The real test of what one thinks of Him must revolve around who He claimed to be and what He
accomplished during His brief mission to our planet.
❑ Our conclusion must be that there is no Christianity without Christ.
❑ All Centers in Him
4. The major theme of the Scriptures is the Person and the work of Jesus Christ
• He is God.
• He became a human being, died by crucifixion, and was buried.
• He rose again from the dead.
• He is the only, all-sufficient Savior of the world.
• He will come again to this earth.
Removing this from the Scripture robs them of all coherent meaning and
continuity.
5. WHO IS JESUS ?
• In chemistry, He turned water to wine. John 2: 1 - 11
• In biology, He was born without the normal conception. Matthew 1:18-25
• In physics, He disproved the law of gravity when He ascended into heaven: Acts 1: 9 - 12
• In economics, He disproved the law of diminishing by feeding 5000 men with two fishes & five loaves of bread
Matthew 13: 14 - 21
• In medicine, He cured the sick and the blind without administering a single dose of drugs. Matthew 4: 23 -25
• In history, He is the beginning and the end. 1 Peter 1: 20 - 21
• In government, He said that He shall be called Wonderful Counsellor, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9: 6
• In religion, He said no one comes to the Father except through Him. John 14: 6
6. SO, WHO IS HE ? “ JESUS “
• He is! The Greatest Man in History.
• Jesus had no servants, yet they called Him Master.
• Jesus Had no degree, yet they called Him Teacher.
• Jesus Had no medicines, yet they called Him Healer.
• Jesus had no army, yet kings feared Him.
• He won no military battles, yet He conquered the world.
• He committed no crime, yet they crucified Him.
• He was buried in a tomb, yet He lives today.
Do you feel honoured to serve such a Leader who loves us ?...
7. THERE ARE 2 NATURE OF JESUS CHRIST
1. Jesus Is 100% God.. Who is Jesus, and how was it possible that Christ’s human body held the whole deity
and glory of God?
• According to John 1:1-3, Jesus existed from the beginning. From the beginning, Jesus was with God, and Jesus was
God.
• Here, the Bible establishes the inseparable nature of Jesus and the God of the Universe.
• The following verses provide further evidence that Jesus is 100% God:
• Miracles: Luke 7:22
• Eyewitnesses to His perfect life: Matthew 16:13-17
• Fulfilment of Prophecy: Matthew 13:14, Luke 24:44
• Jesus' own identification/claim: John 10:30-38, Matthew 16:13-17
• Resurrection: Luke 24:39, Mark 8:31, Acts 17:32
8. The evidence that Jesus Christ is God
(Deity is the only explanation for all that He was and all that He did.)
(1) He was pre-existent with the Father. “The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by
him; and without him was not anything made that was made” (John 1:2 - 3). (Also see John 17:5 and Colossians 1:
15 - 18
(2) He is the Son of God
• His enemies admitted: “He...said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God” (John 5:18, KJV).
• Peter confessed: “And we believe and are sure that thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God” (John 6:69,
KJV).
• Jesus affirmed: “I and my Father are one” (John 10:30, NIV).
9. (3) He was sinless, as only God can be.
• Jesus challenged His enemies: John 8: 48 “Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth,
why don’t you believe me?
• Peter testified: ….“Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example that ye should follow his steps: who did
no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth” 1Peter 2:21, 22.
• Paul stated: …“For he...made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the
righteousness of God in him” (2 Corinthians 5:21)
10. (4) He forgives sin, as only God can.
• The Scribes said: “Who can forgive sins but God only?” (Mark 2:7, KJV).
• Jesus said: …“But that ye may know that the Son of man has the power on earth to forgive sins...”
(Matthew 9:6, KJV). (Also see John 8:11.)
• Peter wrote: …“Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the cross, that we, being dead to sins,
should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes you were healed” (1 Peter 2:24, KJV).
11. (5) He performed miraculous works.
• He healed the sick: Matthew 8:9-13; Luke 4:31-44; 5:12-15; John 4:43 to 5:16; and other references.
• He fed the hungry: John 6; Mark 8, etc.
• He raised the dead: Luke 7:11-18; John 11:1-46.
12. 2. Jesus Is 100% Man
• According to John 1:14, Jesus became flesh and made His dwelling among us.
▪ Why is His humanity so important?
In Hebrews 4:15, Jesus was tempted in every way, just as we are. As such, he can sympathize
with our weakness as humans.
▪ What can we learn from the way he handled temptation?
According to 1 John 3:5, Jesus came to earth in human form so that He could die a physical death
and take away our sins.
How would we all be affected, if we had no potential for escape from our sins?
13. The evidence that Jesus Christ Became Man:
• “And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us...full of grace and truth” ( John 1:14, KJV )
( Philippians 2:7, 8 )
(1) His miraculous birth was prophesied 800 years before His coming: “Behold a virgin shall
conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Emmanuel” Isaiah 7:14
He has a human body,, John :1: 14
(2) The prophecy was fulfilled to the letter. “Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. And,
behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus”
(Luke 1:30, 31, KJV).
14. THE PROOF THAT JESUS IS FULLY HUMAN
•That Jesus of Nazareth was truly and fully human was plain enough to those
who saw and heard and touched and shared life with him (1 John 1:1).
No one questioned his humanity during his ministry.
•But it wasn’t long after his ascension that questions came from the opposite
direction.
•His closest disciples, who knew his humanity full well, worshiped
him as God (Matthew 28:17).
15. 1. His Human Body.
• The New Testament is clear enough that Jesus has a human body. John 1:14 means at
least this, and more: “The Word became flesh.” His humanity became one of the first
tests of orthodoxy (1 John 4:2; 2 John 7).
16. Jesus demonstrated human characteristics
• He was born (Luke 2:7).
• He grew (Luke 2:40, 52).
• He became tired (John 4:6)
• He got thirsty (John 19:28)
• He got hungry (Matthew 4:2).
• He showed feelings (Mark 6:34),
• He knew temptation (Hebrews 4:15),
• He became physically weak (Matthew 4:11; Luke 23:26).
• He died (Luke 23:46). And he had a real human body after his resurrection (Luke 24:39; John 20:20, 27).
17. 2. His Human Heart.
“The Scriptures plainly affirm that Jesus both knows all things as God, and doesn’t know all things as man.”
Throughout the Gospels, Jesus clearly displays human emotions.
• When Jesus heard the centurion’s words of faith, “he marvelled” (Matthew 8:10).
• He says in Matthew 26:38 that his “soul is very sorrowful, even to death.”
• In John 11:33–35, Jesus is “deeply moved in his spirit and greatly troubled,” and even weeps.
• John 12:27 says, “Now is my soul troubled,” and in John 13:21, he is “troubled in his spirit.”
The author to the Hebrews writes that “Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears” (Hebrews 5:7).
“Christ has put on our feelings along with our flesh.”
18. 3. His Human Mind.
• Jesus also has a human mind. We have only experienced one mind, and simply cannot fathom what it
would be like for one person to have both a human mind and a divine mind. Two key texts press us
toward this mind - and truth:
• Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favour with God and man. (Luke 2:52)
“Concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the
Father.” (Mark 13:32)
If Jesus is truly God, and God knows everything, how can Jesus not know when his own second coming will
be?
19. • In addition to being fully divine, Jesus is fully human. His one person has both an infinite,
divine mind and a finite, human mind. He can be said not to know things, as in Mark
13:32, because he is genuinely human and finite — and human minds are not omniscient.
And Jesus can be said to know all things, as in John 21:17, because he is divine and infinite
in his knowledge.
• Paradoxical as it is, the Scriptures plainly affirm that Jesus both knows all things as
God and doesn’t know all things as man. For the unique, two-natured, singular person of
Christ, this is no contradiction, but a peculiar glory of the God – man.
20. 4. His Human Will.
Jesus not only has a divine will, but also a human will. We affirm two wills in Christ — one divine and one
human. Again, the tracks are laid by two key texts:
“I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me.” (John 6:38)
Jesus prays to the Father, “Not as I will, but as you will.” (Matthew 26:39)
• Jesus has an infinite, divine will that is the will of his Father (one will in God). And as man, he has a finite,
human will that, while being an authentic human will, is perfectly in sync with, and submissive to, the divine
will.
21. • It is a great mystery, beyond our experience and understanding, and beyond what we
will ever know as mere humans. But where it leads for those who call him Lord is not
ultimately to confusion, but to worship. Jesus is one truly spectacular person.
• He is fully God. And he is fully man.
• Would we want to fix our eternal honor and worship on one who was not utterly
unique?
There is only one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus (1 Timothy
2:5).
22. “Christ has put on our feelings along with our flesh.”
• Jesus is like us in every aspect — human body, heart, mind, and will — except for sin (Hebrews 2:17; 4:15).
How amazing that the divine Son of God would not just take on part of our humanity on that first Christmas,
but all of it — and then take that true humanity all the way to the cross for us, and now into heaven and the
new creation.
Jesus took a human body to save our bodies.
And he took a human mind to save our minds.
Without becoming man in his emotions, he could not have rescued our hearts.
And without taking a human will, he could not save our broken and wandering wills.
He became man in full, so that he might save us in full. He is a truly marvellous Savior
23. JESUS CHRIST ACCOMPLISHED THE WORKS OF HIS FATHER
(1) He died on the Cross. This is the fundamental theme of the Gospel.
• The fact of His death — One-fourth of the Gospels are dedicated to His Passion and Resurrection.
(a) For this purpose He came into the world (John 12:27). (b) His death
was prophesied hundreds of years before He came (Isaiah 53:3-8).
• The meaning of His death. (a) It was a ransom for sin (Matthew 20:28; Romans 3:24; 1 Peter 1:18). (b) It was to pay
the penalty for sin (Romans 3:24; 1 John 2:2; 4:10). Man is the object of God’s wrath because of rebellion and sin, but
God took the initiative in satisfying His wrath by sending His own Son to Calvary. (c) It is a reconciliation. The enmity
between us and God has ended (Romans 5:10), and we are restored to God (2 Corinthians 5:18, 19). (d) It is a
substitution: He died in our place (1 Peter 3:18; 2 Corinthians 5:21). (e) In summary, the matter of sin has been
completely dealt with (1 Peter 2:24; Hebrews 9:26; Hebrews 10:12).
24. (2) He was resurrected from the dead: This is unique and fundamental to Christianity.
❖ The reality of the Resurrection (John 20:1-10; 1 Corinthians 15:4).
❖ The credibility of the Resurrection:
(a) Jesus predicted it: Matthew 13:39-41; Luke 24:1-7.
(b) The tomb was empty: John 20:11-13.
(c) Many witnesses saw Him alive: the women (Luke 23:55, 56);
(d) Mary Magdalene (John 20:1, 2, 11-18);
(e) Peter and the other disciples (John 20:3-9, 19, 20, 24-31; 21:1-14).
25. The Results of Jesus Work:
(1) He ascended to His Father (Luke 24:49-53; Acts 1:6-11).
(2) He is our eternal Mediator (1 Timothy 2:5; Hebrews 8:6; 1 John 2:1.
(3) He is our Savior: …“Thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins”
(Matthew 1:21, KJV).
… “God set him on high at his side, Prince and Savior, to give Israel the gift of a changed life and sins forgiven.”
(Acts 5:31).
26. Who is Jesus and why is He the only path to salvation?
• He is the only Savior. “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given
to men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12, NIV).
• He is a complete Savior. “Therefore, he is able to save completely those who come to God through
him, because he always lives to intercede for them.” (Hebrews 7:25).
• He is a personal Savior. “ v9, If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart
that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. v10, For it is with your heart that you believe and
are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” (Romans 10:9, 10).
27. CONCLUSION
Is Jesus the Way to Heaven?
• In John 14:6, Jesus declares: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except
through me.” Why is it important to know that NO other religious leaders throughout history have ever
made these claims?
• According to Ephesians 2:8-9, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from
yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast.” How does this contrast with
other world religions which are based on “works” versus faith in Jesus and the resurrection?
• If we can’t build a relationship with God by doing good deeds or repeating rituals, what must we do?
Acts 4:12 is clear, “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to
men by which we must be saved.”
