Lying is an evil characteristic
All religions and systems of ethics
warn against lying
man's innate nature (fitrah) agrees
that it is wrong

But On April 1,
Google becomes Foogle

“It is only those who believe not in the
Ayaat (proofs, evidences, verses,
lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of
Allah, who fabricate falsehood, and it
is they who are liars.”
[16:105]
Lying is PROHIBITED

Signs of the hypocrite
when he speaks, he lies
when he makes a promise, he breaks it
when he is entrusted with something,
he betrays that trust.”
when he quarrels, he deviates from the
truth by speaking falsely

“Say: ‘Verily, those who invent a lie
against Allah will never be successful’”
[Surah Yunus 69]
“Do not tell lies about me. Whoever tells
lies about me, let him enter the Fire.”
(Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 106)
Messenger (‫)ﷺ‬ Said:

“And do not say that of which
you have no knowledge.”
(17:36)

Allah will not speak/ look on the
Day of Resurrection and they will have
a painful torment.” The Messenger of
Allah (‫)ﷺ‬ repeated this three times.
Abu Dharr said: “May they be doomed
and lost, who are they, O Messenger of
Allah?.... They are

One who lets his garment hang below his ankles
One who reminds others of his favours
One who disposes of his goods by swearing a
false oath (Narrated by Muslim, 106)

“The two parties involved in a transaction
have the option [of cancelling it] until
they part. If they are honest and
truthful, their transaction will be
blessed for them and if they conceal
something and tell lies, the blessing of
their transaction will be wiped out.”
(al- Bukhaari, 1973; Muslim, 532)

‘It is sufficient lying for a man to speak
of everything that he hears.’
(Muslim, 5)

Prophet (‫)ﷺ‬ said:
“I joke, but I speak nothing
but the truth.”
(al-Tabaraani in al-Mu’jam al-Kabeer, 12/391)

“Whoever says to a child, ‘Come here and
take this,’ then does not give him
something, this is counted as a lie.”
(Abu Dawood, 4991)

"O you who believe, fear Allah and
always speak the truth." [33:69]

‘Woe to the one who talks to make
the people laugh and tells lies, woe
to him, woe to him.” (al-Tirmidhi 235)

“So He punished them by putting hypocrisy
into their hearts till the Day whereon they
shall meet Him, because they broke that
(covenant with Allaah) which they had
promised to Him and because
they used to tell lies.
[al-Tawbah 9:77]

“Truthfulness is righteousness, and
righteousness leads to Paradise. A
person will continue to tell the truth
until he is written with Allah as one
who tells the truth. Lying is evildoing,
and evildoing leads to Hell. A person
will keep on telling lies until he is
written as a liar.”
(al-Bukhaari, 5743; Muslim, 2607)

Prophet (‫)ﷺ‬ explained about one of his
dreams in which he saw some people of hell
‘As for the man you came across, the sides of
whose mouth, nostrils and eyes were being
torn off from front to back, he is the symbol
of the man who goes out of his house in the
morning and tells so many lies that it spreads
all over the world.’ ” (al-Bukhaari, 5745)

Lying is permissible in three cases:
War
Reconciling between two disputing parties
A husband lying to his wife or vice versa for
the sake of love and harmony.
(al-Tirmidhi, 1939)

“Whoever believes in God and the Last
Day should speak a good word
or remain silent. And whoever
believes in God and the Last Day should
show hospitality to his neighbor. And
whoever believes in God and the Last Day
should show hospitality to his guest.”
Saheeh Al-Bukhari, Saheeh Muslim

“O you who believe! Fear God and speak a
word that is right. He will set right for
you your deeds and forgive you
your sins. And whoever obeys God and
His Messenger has certainly attained a
great achievement.” (33:70-71)

Allah's Messenger ( ‫ﷺ‬) said, “The
worst lie is that a person claims to
have seen a dream which he
has not seen."

“Indeed there is a piece of flesh in your
body that, if it be sound, then the
whole body will be sound and if
it be corrupt then the whole body will
be corrupt. Indeed it is the heart.”
- Sahih al-Bukhari

“Not a word is said exceptthat
there is a watcher by him
ready to record it.”
– [50:18]

Imaam ash-Shafiee - rahimahullah - said.
“If you wish to speak then it is
upon you to think before you
speak. If you think there is good
in it then speak and if not then do
not speak.”

....And Allah has hated for you:
(1) Qil and Qal (sinful and useless
talk, like backbiting or that one
talks too much about others),
(2) To ask too many questions (in
disputed religious matters, etc.)...
Sahih al-Bukhari [3:591]

“Whoever guards what is between
his two jaws and two legs. I shall
guarantee him paradise.”
- Saheeh al-Bukhari (8/481)

“Every saying of the children of
Aadam is cursed, except for the
enjoining good and forbidding the
evil or for the remembrance of
Allah.”
- Sunan at-Tirmidhi

The Eemaan of Allah’s servant
will not be upright until his
heart is upright and his heart
will not be upright until his
tongue is upright.”
Musnad Imaam Ahmad

“Most of the sins of the children of
Aadam are from the tongue.”
- At-Tabaraanee (3/87/1-2)

Some people asked Allah's Messenger
‫ﷺ‬( )Whose Islam is the best? i.e.
(Who is a very good Muslim)?"
He replied, "One who avoids harming
the Muslims with his tongue and
hands."

ibaadu ar-rahmaan
Imitating disbelievers

“O you who believe! Fear Allah
as He ought to be feared and do
not die except
as believers.”
