The document discusses issues around the availability and use of evaluative and comparative information in tertiary education systems. It notes that a variety of actors should be involved in determining what data is collected, including universities, government authorities, students, and industry. Responsibility for collecting accurate data needs to be clearly defined. There is also a need to standardize core data sets and move beyond just reporting inputs to also evaluating outputs and results. Reliable data is important for ensuring consistency and preventing manipulation. Developing strong management information systems and independent agencies can help improve the availability and use of information.

Mobile Citizen Summit Presentation: "Web Development for a Mobile-Enabled World"Michael Walsh
Web development needs have radically shifted with the emergence of third party social media sites and the growth of mobile computing. Independent of the shift to the Cloud, the shift in how people communicate and what they use to communicate is having a profound effect on web development. Organizations no longer need just web sites but rather an integrated online presence. Traditional web development therefore needs to evolve to meet this need. This presentation discusses how organizations need to evolve their web strategy to take into consideration disruptive shifts, especially the increasing importance of mobile. It also provides a comprehensive set of recommendations on how to build more effective strategies.

Introduction to Implementing the Balanced Value Impact Model - Workshop for N...Simon Tanner
The Balanced Value Impact Model is intended to aid the thinking and decision making of those wishing to engage in Impact Assessment. It also acts as a guide through the process of Impact Assessment to enable the core values most appropriate to the assessment to be brought to the fore and given a balanced consideration when evaluating outcomes. It presumes that the assessment will be measuring change within an ecosystem for a digital resource.
For the purposes of this Model, the definition of Impact is: The measurable outcomes arising from the existence of a digital resource that demonstrate a change in the life or life opportunities of the community.
Who should use the BVI Model?
The aim of this workshop is to provide key information and a strong model for the following primary communities of use:
Memory institutions and cultural heritage organizations, such as libraries, museums and archives.
Funding bodies who wish to promote evidence-based impact assessment of activities they support.
Holders and custodians of special collections.
Managers, project managers and fundraisers who are seeking to justify further investment in digital resources.
Academics looking to establish digital projects and digital scholarship collaborations with collection owners.
Publishing, media and business sectors which may be considering the best means to measure the impact of their digital resources and are looking to collaborate and align with collection owners, with academia or with memory institutions.
Impact Assessment practitioners considering an Impact Assessment of a digital resource.
What the workshop will cover:
Where the value and impact can be found in digital resources,
Who are the beneficiaries gaining from the impact and value,
How to measure change and impact for digital resources,
How to do an Impact Assessment using the Balanced Value Impact Model, and
How to present a convincing evidence-based argument for digital resources?
The Workshop will include case studies of how the BVI Model is being implemented at present.

ISCRAM 2013: Designing towards an impact evaluation framework for a collabora...ISCRAM Events
This document proposes an impact evaluation framework for assessing collaborative information supply chains between volunteer and technical communities (V&TC) and humanitarian organizations. It outlines the framework components, including evaluation types, perspectives, scope, measurements, and indicators. A case study example compares how the framework could be applied differently to assess the impact of an information supply system used by an NGO versus one used by a V&TC deployment. The framework is intended to help improve coordination between formal humanitarian systems and loosely organized volunteer groups.
Emerging technologies provide opportunities for the humanitarian responders’ community to enhance the effectiveness of their response to crisissituations. A part of this development can be contributed to a new type of information supply chains -driven by collaboration with digital, online communities- enabling organizations to make better informed decisions. However, how exactly and to what extend this collaboration impacts the decision making process is unknown. To improve these new information exchanges and the corresponding systems, an evaluation method is needed to assess the performance of these processes and systems. This paper builds on existing evaluation methods for information systems and design principles to propose such an impact evaluation framework. The proposed framework has been applied in a case study to demonstrate its potential to identify areas for further improvement in the (online) collaboration between information suppliers and users.

The pilot would test an API or open data platform over 2-3 months to inform a full open data service.
Expanding Internationally Through Partnerships: Practical Lessons For 21st Ce...TechSoup
Rebecca Masisak and Marnie Webb, Co-CEOs, TechSoup Global
Your organization is currently doing critical work in the United States, but you recognize the need to grow its reach and impact internationally. What models should be considered? How do key staff and boards step up to support experimentation and adroitly shape and govern the emerging structures and brand?
Important lessons can be learned from pioneering TechSoup Global. As worldwide demand for its programs grew, TechSoup Global's leadership team and board struggled with developing an organizational model that would mobilize partners around a common mission and include contributions from multiple players. Like most organizations, key considerations included expansion without significant additions in headcount and overhead. Now operating in 33 countries with three distinct boards of directors, TechSoup Global has successfully built a growing global network of locally driven programs.
A showcase of applicable insights, this session explores lessons learned, innovative technologies deployed, organizational models piloted and refined, and how boards influence and model the kind of leadership needed as organizations expand internationally.

A Guide to AI for Smarter Nonprofits - Dr. Cori Faklaris, UNC CharlotteCori Faklaris
Working with data is a challenge for many organizations. Nonprofits in particular may need to collect and analyze sensitive, incomplete, and/or biased historical data about people. In this talk, Dr. Cori Faklaris of UNC Charlotte provides an overview of current AI capabilities and weaknesses to consider when integrating current AI technologies into the data workflow. The talk is organized around three takeaways: (1) For better or sometimes worse, AI provides you with “infinite interns.” (2) Give people permission & guardrails to learn what works with these “interns” and what doesn’t. (3) Create a roadmap for adding in more AI to assist nonprofit work, along with strategies for bias mitigation.
