This document discusses applied linguistics and its implications for language teaching. Applied linguistics deals with practical problems of language and communication by applying linguistic theories and methods. There are three implications: 1) applied linguists draw from many fields, 2) applied linguists facilitate rather than dictate, and 3) description alone does not constitute applied linguistics. The document also discusses factors relevant to applied linguistics in language teaching, including educational, social, psychological, and linguistic factors. It aims to show how applied linguistics can contribute to improving language teaching.
