• Definition: The external
application of vacuum suction to
the skin to draw humors to the
surface, away from an organ or
an area of the body
• Usage: Detoxification and
reduction of inflammation
• Precautions: Not advised for
people over the age of 60

4. Enema
– Definition: A technique for emptying the intestines
– Usage: Reduces kidney and bladder pain and enlargement as well as detoxifies
the upper organs
– Precautions: A harsh enema could weaken the liver

5. Massage
– A post bathing technique in Unani medicine
– Definition: The rubbing and kneading of muscles and joints with the fingers and palms at
various pressures
– Usage: To relieve tension or pain
– Precautions: Do not use this therapy if the patient has:
– Bleeding disorders or is take blood-thinning medication
– Burns or healing wounds
– Deep vein thrombosis
– Fractures
– Severe osteoporosis
– Severe thrombocytopenia

6. Cauterization
– Definition: The application of heated metal directly to skin surface
– Purpose: Prevents disease from spreading to healthy parts of the body and can
treat infected, weak areas to make them stronger
– Precautions: Intentionally burring the skin of a patient should only be
performed by a trained professional
