This document discusses the importance of proactively addressing social license in the agriculture industry from the perspective of the Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Beef. It notes that social license is the privilege to operate with minimal formal restrictions and that a lack of transparency results in distrust. Maintaining social license is important for regulations, consumer trust, purchasing, risk mitigation and conscious capitalism. The document outlines the Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Beef's work on developing sustainability assessments, indicators and verification processes. It provides an example indicator and discusses preparing farmers to tell the story of sustainable beef production practices.

Presented by Siboniso Moyo (ILRI) at a Consultative Meeting on Strengthening CGIAR - EARS partnerships for effective agricultural transformation in Ethiopia, Addis Ababa, 4–5 December 2014
The document provides information on various food regulatory organizations around the world:
- It discusses key Indian acts and organizations that regulate food including the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006, AGMARK, and FSSAI.
- The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is introduced as the UN agency working to defeat hunger internationally.
- Details are given about the structure and departments of the FAO, as well as its objectives, programs, and achievements.
- The US Food and Drug Administration is summarized, including what products it regulates and its organizational structure with centers focused on specific product areas.
- Other food safety systems discussed include HACCP, which provides a systematic approach to food safety,
This document discusses changes to the CGIAR system and outlines RTB's response. RTB is transitioning from RTB 1.0, which focused on crop themes and outputs, to RTB 2.0 which will emphasize flagship projects, outcomes, and results-based management. RTB 2.0 will focus on delivery projects near adoption, discovery projects for long term options, and cross-cutting support. Governance will involve flagship project leaders and clusters of activity leaders reporting to a unified steering committee. The timeline calls for piloting RBM in 2014, engaging partners, and potentially bringing forward the transition from RTB 1.0 to 2.0 after an independent evaluation in 2015.
Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) are methods for producing agriculture in a sustainable way. They aim to ensure food safety and quality, protect the environment, and support economic viability and social equity. GAP standards have been developed by various public and private organizations for different commodities and markets. Potential benefits include improved food safety, market access, and more sustainable farming. Challenges include increased costs, lack of harmonization between standards, and ensuring small farmers can participate. Key principles of GAP include clean soil, water, worker hygiene, and surfaces to prevent contamination during all stages of production and harvesting. Proper record keeping is also important for food safety.

This document provides an overview of organic tree fruit production, including marketing considerations, orchard planning and establishment, and ongoing orchard management. Some key points:
- Marketing is critical to success, and the production system must be designed to meet the needs of intended markets. Premium pricing may be needed to offset typically higher organic production costs.
- Proper site selection is important, considering soil, climate, drainage and other environmental factors that cannot be easily changed. Variety selection should match the site conditions and market opportunities.
- Careful planning includes decisions around crop species, rootstocks, tree spacing and layout to optimize productivity and efficiency over the long term life of the orchard. Establishing soil fertility and integrated pest management programs
