Apigee Deploy Grunt Plugin - API Management Lifecycle Tool that makes your life easier by providing a JavaScript pluggable framework for API development.
I Love APIs 2015
In order to scale the development of APIs with agility, quality, and on budget, it is required to start with the right foundation. Ozan Seyman and Diego Zuluaga, Apigee explain how to build APIs that last by leveraging the virtuous cycle of Continuous Integration. Concepts include version control, configuration management, static code analysis, testing, deployment, build analytics, and documentation.
Presented at JavaOne 2016.
Using Swagger has become the most popular way to describe REST APIs across the web, enabling people to more quickly understand and communicate with services, with developer-friendly documentation and rich, autogenerated client SDKs. As the API has moved more into being one of the most important aspects of a service, the Swagger definition has become increasingly more important and essential to the design phase. This presentation explains how the Swagger definition can be used to streamline the iteration process and enable client and server engineers to develop concurrently with complex APIs.
Coders Workshop: API First Mobile Development Featuring Angular and NodeApigee | Google Cloud
This document provides an agenda and overview for a workshop on API-driven app development. The agenda includes sections on Node.js, RESTful API best practices, Apigee 127, AngularJS, mobile backend as a service (mBaaS), and building a sample application that integrates these technologies. It discusses Node.js, why it is popular, and provides a crash course on key concepts. It also covers RESTful API design best practices and introduces Apigee 127 for building and deploying APIs. The document introduces AngularJS and Ionic for building hybrid mobile apps, and using a mBaaS like Apigee's API platform. It concludes with an exercise of integrating these pieces to build
Crystal clear service interfaces w/ Swagger/OpenAPIScott Triglia
Learn how to better communicate between Python services. We'll use simple-to-follow examples and go from a service with undocumented endpoints to one which has full docs and validation on requests. Learn how to use Swagger tooling for python, including the bravado (client) and pyramid_swagger (server) libraries. In the end, you'll (hopefully!) find nirvana and make the machines do all the hard work for you.
Practical Patterns for Developing a Cross-product Cross-version AppAtlassian
Victoria Skalrud leads the team responsible for developing and maintaining the Atlassian Support Troubleshooting tools app at Atlassian.
She’ll share the development patterns that her team has used to support compatibility across product versions whilst maintaining a high release velocity.
This document discusses the benefits of building APIs first before developing user interfaces. It argues that taking an "API-first" approach allows software to more easily become a platform that others can integrate with. Some key points made include:
- Building APIs first is more work upfront but pays off by enabling integrations and new interfaces like mobile apps.
- The process needs to break features into API endpoints before considering the user interface.
- APIs should support multiple "actors" like users, integrations and bots rather than tying all data to individual user accounts.
- Thinking about how features may evolve and allowing for future possibilities, like multiple related objects rather than a single one, helps future-proof APIs.

Iterative Development with Swagger on the JDKSwagger API
Iterative Development with Swagger on the JDK allows for generating clients and servers from a single Swagger specification file. It supports generating code for many programming languages and frameworks. The Swagger-Inflector tool aims to improve this process by making the specification the single source of truth, and by automatically generating endpoint implementations and sample responses to reduce boilerplate code. It uses JAX-RS 2.0 and Jersey 2.6 and allows developers to focus on business logic rather than plumbing code. The project is currently in preview stage and aims to become a fully supported part of the Swagger tools.
The document introduces Swagger, an open source framework for describing and documenting RESTful APIs. Swagger allows APIs to be defined in a machine-readable JSON format and generates documentation, client libraries, and servers from these definitions. This standardized interface for APIs has benefits like enabling parallel development, removing logic from clients, and facilitating code generation for multiple platforms and languages.

Operational API design anti-patterns (Jason Harmon)Nordic APIs
This is a session given by Jason Harmon at Nordic APIs 2016 Platform Summit on October 26th, in Stockholm Sweden.
Description:
Normally, we find valuable data our clients need, and create APIs. We rationalize our domains into understandable resources, with clear boundaries of ownership (especially in microservice environments). However, if our design doesn’t include considerations for how clients will use the APIs, we can get into a lot of trouble when it goes live. We’ll look at some API design patterns that can cause operational headaches, and how to watch out for them. Furthermore, we’ll cover some tricks to get out of trouble if we already have it implemented.

Abstract
There is a lot of debate whether to use Serverless or Kubernetes to build cloud-native apps. Both have their advantages and unique capabilities which developers should take into consideration when planning new projects. We will throw some light on the topics ease of use, maturity, types of scenarios, developer productivity and debugging, supported languages, DevOps and monitoring, performance, community and pricing. Cloud-native architectures shift the complexity from within an application to orchestrations of Microservices. Both Kubernetes and Serverless have their strengths which we will discuss. Besides the core development topics, developers should also understand operational aspects how complicated it is to maintain your own systems versus using managed platforms.

Continuous Integration for Spark Apps by Sean McIntyreSpark Summit
The document discusses the challenges of continuous integration for Apache Spark applications and presents a solution developed by Uncharted Software. It describes squeezing Spark, tests, and other tools into Docker containers to enable building and testing Spark apps across branches in a shared environment. This approach allows automating testing of Spark code commits, detecting issues early, and providing visibility of test results.
Gradle is an open-source build automation tool focused on flexibility, build reproducibility and performance. Over the years, this tool has evolved and introduced new concepts and features around dependency management, publication and other aspects on build and release of artifacts for the Java platform.
Keeping up to date with all these features across several projects can be challenging. How do you make sure that all your projects can be upgraded to the latest version of Gradle? What if you have thousands of projects and hundreds of engineers? How can you abstract common tasks for them and make sure that new releases work as expected?
At Netflix, we built Nebula, a collection of Gradle plugins that helps engineers remove boilerplate in Gradle build files, and makes building software the Netflix way easy. This reduces the cognitive load on developers, allowing them to focus on writing code.
In this talk, I’ll share with you our philosophy on how to build JVM artifacts and the pieces that help us boost the productivity of engineers at Netflix. I’ll talk about:
- What is Nebula
- What are the common problems we face and try to solve
- How we distribute it to every JVM engineer
- How we ensure that Nebula/Gradle changes do not break builds so we can ship new features with confidence at Netflix

Using the awesome power of Spring Boot with Spring Data Geode to build highly-scalable, distributed Spring/Java applications using Apache Geode or Pivotal GemFire.
The document discusses multiple approaches to managing Puppet modules, including keeping all modules in a single repo (which is not scalable), using a Puppetfile to track modules and dependencies, librarian-puppet and librarian-puppet-simple to install modules from a Puppetfile, and r10k to deploy modules from a git repo to environments. It recommends using separate repos for each module, a Puppetfile to track modules, and r10k to simplify development workflows.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

DIEGO –
So, before diving deeper into technical aspects, let’s talk a little bit about the current state of the build and deployment process
DIEGO
This is assuming developers work on file-based development: UI Development does some of these tasks through the browser
Before code gets shipped to an environment be it Development, QA, staging, or production, it needs to go through a build process which executes the following task
Some of these tasks aren’t required or could be executed in a different sequence
Too many steps to go through and each one of them is essential
Depending on the task, between 38 per cent and 59 per cent of users were still carrying them out manually
We (software engineers) do a great work at automating the work for others, but about ourselves
DIEGO
The reality is that software development in general without the right tools is more challenging than it should to be
Current methodologies (Agile, TDD, BDD) methodologies now enable organizations to get faster time to market
Which means, releases occur not only monthly, but bi-weekly, daily or even multiple times a day. So, it’s though to keep up with this pace
