Pragmatic approach to Microservice Architecture: Role of MiddlewareAsanka Abeysinghe
Microservice Architecture (MSA) is emerging as a popular architecture pattern in today’s agile enterprise. Its iterative architecture and development methodologies are particularly attracting the interest of architects who need continuous delivery to fulfil business needs.
But, is every characteristics of MSA new or even pragmatic? Asanka Abeysinghe, vice president of solutions architecture at WSO2, will provide insights into MSA requirements from real-world examples and provide details of an architect friendly pragmatic approach for this architecture pattern.
Middleware plays a key role in successful MSA-based implementations. Using the correct middleware capabilities enable enterprises to fully leverage advantages provided by MSA, and ensures ease of implementation and faster time to market.
Asanka will explain essential middleware capabilities required to resolve the MSA puzzle, where you can also utilize supportive technologies such as Continuous Integration (CI), containerization and Container as a Service (CaaS).

We hear a lot about microservices vs. SOA but in reality most companies have both. In this session learn about how you can introduce microservices into your existing infrastructure and where microservices makes the most sense. Topics include how API management and the integration platform help you introduce microservices without the anarchy. See how products such as Oracle API Platform Cloud Service and Oracle Service Bus can be used to support traditional integration styles as well as microservices.

Building a Bank out of Microservices (NDC Sydney, August 2016)Graham Lea
From April 2014, Tyro Payments assigned more than half of it's Engineering team to developing and deploying a bespoke core banking system. Over the course of 18 months we shipped 21 new services and a new mobile app, as well as integrating with new external partners and Tyro's existing systems.
In this talk I presented a case study of the project, covering:
• the core tenets and some of the more interesting aspects of our architecture;
• why we were well positioned to use microservices for this greenfield work;
• the decisions we made that turned out well and the ones that didn't;
• security (we know a bit about that);
• testing (we do lots of it);
• deployment;
• how the system and the team is evolving.

Melbourne Microservices Meetup: Agenda for a new ArchitectureSaul Caganoff
This presentation steps back to look at the current IT climate and context for microservices. I argue that we are experiencing a paradigm shift in how we build applications and that microservices may represent a new paradigm alternative.
I then look back at previous experience with application architectures, the driving forces acting today in terms of "crisis" and opportunities and what aspects of microservices we want to examine in more detail in future meetup events.
KEYNOTE TALK
What does it take to innovate quickly? I’ll address how blockers to innovation – including culture, skills, antiquated processes, and board level concerns – can stand in the way of business agility. We’ll map out a pathway to digital transformation including new metrics for success, integrating real-world best practices from enterprises, and the most effective organizational patterns, as we integrate the business with development and operations.
Presented by Netlighter Till Krullmann at the first Edge X event in Berlin. Till goes through what it takes to implement devops in your business from strategic value to who and how to hire.

The fueling of information systems will always require some effort, but a confluence of innovations is fundamentally changing how quickly and accurately it can be done. Gone are long cycle times for development. Today, organizations can embrace a more rapid and collaborative approach for building analytical applications and data warehouses. The key is to have business experts working hand-in-hand with data professionals as the solutions take shape, thus expediting the speed to valuable insights.
Register for this episode of The Briefing Room to hear veteran Analyst Dr. Robin Bloor as he explains the changing nature of information design. He’ll be briefed by WhereScape President Mark Budzinski, who will discuss his company’s data warehouse automation solutions and how they enable collaborative development. He will share use cases that illustrate show aligning business and IT, organizations can enable faster and more agile data warehouse development.

Description of CISTI's successful SOA initiative, plus how SOA may help the library catalogue and assist libraries in contributing to e-Science. Presented at IATUL 2007.
As industries digitally transform their existing business models to fend off competitors or disrupt new markets, they find their IT to be a limiting factor. In this session, we cover the trends of disruptions and opportunities of digital transformation, and the evolution of IT monoliths to microservices and now cloud native services. We also explore dependency management, or “lock in,” through a “choosing, using, and losing” mental model. Finally, we explore chaos architecture as an evolving method for exposing weaknesses before they become real problems.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Connector Corner: Automate dynamic content and events by pushing a buttonDianaGray10
Here is something new! In our next Connector Corner webinar, we will demonstrate how you can use a single workflow to:
Create a campaign using Mailchimp with merge tags/fields
Send an interactive Slack channel message (using buttons)
Have the message received by managers and peers along with a test email for review
But there’s more:
In a second workflow supporting the same use case, you’ll see:
Your campaign sent to target colleagues for approval
If the “Approve” button is clicked, a Jira/Zendesk ticket is created for the marketing design team
But—if the “Reject” button is pushed, colleagues will be alerted via Slack message
Join us to learn more about this new, human-in-the-loop capability, brought to you by Integration Service connectors.

Generating a custom Ruby SDK for your web service or Rails API using Smithyg2nightmarescribd
Have you ever wanted a Ruby client API to communicate with your web service? Smithy is a protocol-agnostic language for defining services and SDKs. Smithy Ruby is an implementation of Smithy that generates a Ruby SDK using a Smithy model. In this talk, we will explore Smithy and Smithy Ruby to learn how to generate custom feature-rich SDKs that can communicate with any web service, such as a Rails JSON API.
