Faster than relational and more robust than document, graph databases are taking the big data world by storm. Every major player in big data is using them for everything from inventory control to intelligence analysis to knowledge discovery to social searching. Now you can apply this same technology to your existing Domino applications without moving or copying any data using the OpenNTF Domino API. See and learn how to apply this exciting new technology to your existing NSF databases, whether one application at a time, or for your entire domain, using both Java and JSON APIs.
Wiki-like collaborative development for seamless customer involvementPaolo Predonzani
The document describes a wiki-like collaborative development workflow for seamless customer involvement. It shows conversations between various stakeholders discussing requirements for an event registration system. Over time, additional requirements are discovered, the system evolves and matures. Lessons learned include having one shared installation from the beginning, doing early testing with end users, and keeping requirements, documentation and help information aligned. The workflow aims to bring business analysts, users and developers into the common ground for a more fluid process from sketch to implementation.
Adaptive Content equals Architecture plus Process minus Reality [Noz Urbina, ...Noz Urbina
Adaptive content is one of the most powerful and critical concepts of this decade. It is an attempt to address a never-before-seen diversity of content contexts and platforms, as well as sky-high user expectations. We are in an age where our smartphones are already starting to bore us. What were head-spinning miracles of science and technology less than three years ago “lack innovation” today. With customers assimilating new technologies into their lives and resetting expectations at this speed, the pressure to provide innovative, differentiating and strategically significant content experience is higher than ever. New platforms and interface paradigms are just around the corner. Adaptive content promises to help us address these challenges, but it still takes organisations years to adapt themselves. Noz Urbina focuses on how content architecture and process need to be altered for adaptive content, and what to do when reality sets in.

Examples from projects at Boulder Public Library and Auraria Library are provided.
Taxonomy is a useful way to categorize your content so you can find it, re-use it, and help users browse and search through your content. It also helps with search engine optimization.
Many websites rely on search instead of good information architecture, but many times search isn't well designed. This presentation reviews how to look at site search analytics, metadata and taxonomy, and user testing to improve the internal search
1. The document discusses three ways to make taxonomy development more effective: considering next steps in design; taking into account team and technology capabilities; and thinking strategically before design.
2. It provides examples from projects where lessons were learned about understanding stakeholder needs, educating others about taxonomy, and ensuring technology capabilities support the taxonomy.
3. Thinking strategically involves doing research, identifying possibilities and conditions needed, barriers, and efforts to overcome barriers in order to support business goals with the taxonomy.
Taxonomies are essential to making the web "go". Information architects and content strategists can use and promote taxonomy within their organizations to increase findability and usability of a website. Learn more about taxonomies and see some great examples.
Diagnosing and Solving Content Problems - Information Architecture and Conten...Theresa Putkey
A step-by-step process for looking at your website, discovering the problems with the content, prioritizing these problems and then solving them. Takes an information architecture and content strategy approach.
Intersections of Information Architecture and Content StrategyTheresa Putkey
The document discusses the intersection of information architecture, content strategy, and user experience. It begins with definitions of information architecture and content strategy, noting they both deal with organizing and presenting information but information architecture is more spatial while content strategy is more temporal. It then compares the tools and deliverables of each, such as site maps and wireframes. The document discusses how information architecture and content strategy can work together on activities like usability testing and content inventories. It concludes by considering the future of both fields and how practitioners can better communicate and work across the disciplines.
Guiding Others Through the Maze: Working with Stakeholders to Build a TaxonomyTheresa Putkey
The document discusses how to guide stakeholders through building a taxonomy. It recommends holding a taxonomy workshop to provide history, examples, and an overview of the process. If a workshop is not possible, concepts should be covered one-on-one using examples. The taxonomy should be reviewed and iterated on frequently to get feedback and demonstrate functionality. Involving stakeholders in building parts allows them to learn, and maintenance indicates understanding of principles.
The document discusses principles of taxonomy. It covers a brief history of taxonomies, modern uses of taxonomies, the purpose of taxonomies including finding related items and improving search results, and how to build and maintain a taxonomy including conducting a content audit and determining relationships between terms. It also discusses transferring taxonomy skills to other domains.

Hybridize Functions: A Tool for Automatically Refactoring Imperative Deep Lea...Raffi Khatchadourian
Efficiency is essential to support responsiveness w.r.t. ever-growing datasets, especially for Deep Learning (DL) systems. DL frameworks have traditionally embraced deferred execution-style DL code—supporting symbolic, graph-based Deep Neural Network (DNN) computation. While scalable, such development is error-prone, non-intuitive, and difficult to debug. Consequently, more natural, imperative DL frameworks encouraging eager execution have emerged but at the expense of run-time performance. Though hybrid approaches aim for the “best of both worlds,” using them effectively requires subtle considerations to make code amenable to safe, accurate, and efficient graph execution—avoiding performance bottlenecks and semantically inequivalent results. We discuss the engineering aspects of a refactoring tool that automatically determines when it is safe and potentially advantageous to migrate imperative DL code to graph execution and vice-versa.

Challenges in Migrating Imperative Deep Learning Programs to Graph Execution:...Raffi Khatchadourian
Efficiency is essential to support responsiveness w.r.t. ever-growing datasets, especially for Deep Learning (DL) systems. DL frameworks have traditionally embraced deferred execution-style DL code that supports symbolic, graph-based Deep Neural Network (DNN) computation. While scalable, such development tends to produce DL code that is error-prone, non-intuitive, and difficult to debug. Consequently, more natural, less error-prone imperative DL frameworks encouraging eager execution have emerged at the expense of run-time performance. While hybrid approaches aim for the "best of both worlds," the challenges in applying them in the real world are largely unknown. We conduct a data-driven analysis of challenges---and resultant bugs---involved in writing reliable yet performant imperative DL code by studying 250 open-source projects, consisting of 19.7 MLOC, along with 470 and 446 manually examined code patches and bug reports, respectively. The results indicate that hybridization: (i) is prone to API misuse, (ii) can result in performance degradation---the opposite of its intention, and (iii) has limited application due to execution mode incompatibility. We put forth several recommendations, best practices, and anti-patterns for effectively hybridizing imperative DL code, potentially benefiting DL practitioners, API designers, tool developers, and educators.

5. Who Is Meridian Software Company based in California with an office here in Vancouver Makes Construction Project Management Software
6. How I came upon the job is a long story, but I’ll make it short.
7. Joe, Irish, Doc manager Theresa, consultant Marcy, writer Contract writer Brian, CTO Viktor, Design Jay Support 3 Johns
8. Product 1: Proliance 4 RH projects with 2000 help topics for Proliance with 400 duplicated topics 10 bulletins, 10 white papers, installation manual, upgrade manual in Word Readmes in FrontPage Technical Library for Developers in Notepad 1000 kb items in Pivotal 1999 (no XML)
9. Product 2: Prolog 2500 help topics in Prolog with about 600 duplicated topics 8 online help systems RoboHelp 50 technical bulletins in Word Readmes, Installation guides, Upgrade guides in FrontPage 3000 knowledge base items in Pivotal database from 1999 (no XML capabilities)
10. Help Situation RH had problems with big projects No Version Control No technical writers on staff Things had reached critical mass
11. Things They Wanted To fix things up, bring them up to date To hire a writer Coordinate with Support Services (in California)
12. Coordinating with Support Too many resources meant customers couldn’t find information. Information was out of date. Support needed to drive more people to the finding information on the website, away from emails and phone calls.

16. Helping Support Documentation was important to Support, so why not integrate with them more? New SupportLink WebHelp proposed Support Manager buys in!
17. Tool evaluation requirements Technical documentation oriented Import from RH and Word Something like RH, but have much better content reuse options
18. Choosing Flare Offered the most options in terms of functionality Worked most easily with RH Lower cost Lower perceived learning curve
26. Presentation to R&D People were curious Something fresh was happening for a stagnant department
27.

30.
31. Implementing Decided to change both products at the same time, but slightly delayed the second product so I could train the technical writer to do: Information model Content audit Detailed reuse model
32. Information model The information model gave a high level overview of the deliverables we would create. This was more for people outside the department who wanted to know what we were doing, and easy way to see content reuse.
33.
34. Content audit The content audit was much more in depth and looked at all the documentation and where it was duplicated.
35. Detailed reuse model The detailed reuse model showed on a topic-by-topic basis where the content would be reused and in which deliverables.
36.
37. Keeping in Touch We were also in contact with: Support Services Marketing R&D
38. SupportLink mockups Done in Visio We asked for CSS support and graphic design support Acted as a proof of concept
39.
40. Design Help with Flare skin The graphic designer made it look pretty And was concerned about usability and “Web 2.0” Yay!
41.
42. Importing KB Items Worked with Support to figure out the knowledge base process. Items up to date Not duplicated
43. Technical Library CTO needs a Technical Library “ I want the ‘MSDN look and feel’.” I’ve seen the MSDN and it’s not that attractive, so I asked him what he meant
44. It was clear: Documentation suffered from a lack of understanding in R&D.
45. Support relied on the documentation to be accurate and concise, but it wasn’t.
46. Rarely do we measure technical support efficiency in terms of useful documentation because we’re not familiar with the connection.
47. This transition was large for everyone: move from multiple sources, lots of browsing, to searching in one place for the necessary information.
48. In early releases, some Support staff panicked when information was missing. To succeed, to show our flexibility and willingness, we had to be accommodating and understanding.
49. By reaching out from documentation, we were able to start a team effort and build understanding. 90% of people bought in
50. Without the enthusiasm and excitement, the project would not have gone as well. (Link to WebSite unavailable)
