Aphasia is a communication disorder that affects a person's ability to process language and can cause difficulty speaking, reading, and writing. It is usually caused by damage to the left side of the brain, often from a stroke or head injury. Effects of aphasia may include mixing up letters and words, forgetting words, headaches, and pronouncing or ordering words incorrectly in sentences. While intelligence remains, speaking becomes very challenging for those with aphasia. Technology can help in rehabilitation by allowing patients to practice words and sentences at home.
