Both Attack on Titan and Pacific Rim feature giant mechs called Jaegers that are used to fight equally giant enemies. In Attack on Titan, the enemies are human-eating Titans while in Pacific Rim they are alien Kaiju. The main characters, Eren Jaeger and Raleigh Becket, both lose family members to these enemies and are driven to fight them. They are joined by teammates who help pilot the Jaegers as well as scientists who study the enemies to learn their weaknesses despite the danger they pose. Both stories also involve massive walls being built for protection that ultimately prove insufficient against the threats.
