Project Description
Sun Life US Service Center Operations implemented new product where McCamish vendor is
responsible to provide extracts in a specific order and format from its Admin System
In order to implement this product, we as database tester need to ensure that every
downstream application and reports generated further for analytical purpose is fetching the
correct information from the correct datawarehouse tables.
Roles and Responsibilities
As an ETL tester, we need to follow and every step of process:
• We need coordinate with Developers and Business Analyst and make sure that IDR
server receive correct Extract according the specification with right format, order and
data.
• Preparation of Test plan and test cases for entire Application. To create Test Scenarios
for End to End testing of the data interactions & functions between Source System to
destination based on the functional design docs.
• Here creates the model as per the requirement using ERWIN TOOl as it supports a
variety of aspects of database design, including data modeling as well as creating
relational schema as well.
• To create regression testing conditions for every data flow and interaction, create SQL
queries on the SQL Server to test logical data flows, Test for the impacted downstream
systems.
• UAT involves activities like:-
1. Explaining and Convincing Client with product that we are providing them.
2. Accepting and understanding their suggestions for improving system and
making them understood to Developer.
3. Ensuring that changes asked by user have been done properly.
• Through pre-defined Stored Procs and Staging tables, data is supposed to go to different
respective data warehouse permanent tables with the help of Lookup tables. We as
tester have to ensure that data has been loaded to correct tables correctly without any
Rejects and with proper transformation.
• Preparing Test Incident Report after testing, Being a Part of User Acceptance Testing
(UAT), Preparing Implementation Plan and signoff Doc.

4. • Sunlife Financial maintains different data repositories (dataware-houses)
categorized according to line of business it works (Individual, Group and
Annuities). These data repositories serve as a destination of several
applications and source for various reporting applications.

• IDR data repositories or warehouses acts as a logical collection of information
gathered from many different operational databases used to create business
intelligence that supports business analysis activities and decision-making
tasks, primarily, a record of an enterprise's past transactional and operational
information, stored in a database designed to favors efficient data analysis
and reporting (especially OLAP)".

to stored procedures, verifying affected areas due to above points, verifying
extracts generated by source systems (Extraction) , verifying the
transformation(convert and summarize operational data into a consistent
format) and loading of the data in datawarehouse tables (ETL –
Datawarehouse Testing ) .
