Term Project Guide
Form a team of three to collect information for analyzing the performance of a publicly traded firm that pays dividend, making recommendation on improving the firm’s performance, and writing a report like a consultant. The name of the firm is Carlisle Companies, Inc. In order to help your team with this task, a rather structured guideline is provide below.
The Content
The analysis and report should include the following seven items.
1. The Firm’s Description: Identify your firm’s industry and its peer group. Describe the type of business activity the firm is engaged. The source of your information should include IBIS World and Mergent.
2. The Economic and Industry Conditions: Describe the impacts of the current and expected economic conditions on (a) your firm’s industry and (b) on your firm. Make use of the economic indicators. Sources should include IBIS World and Conference Board
3. Ratio Analysis: What do the five major categories of ratio indicate about your firm? Use both cross-sectional and trend Analysis. State what the numbers are revealing. There is no need for general description of ratios, just the application in this case.
4. EVA and MVA: Estimate Economic Value Added and Market Value Added for your firm based on the most recent available data. Interpret the numbers.
5. Free Cash Flow Valuation: Estimate the value of firm based on the Free Cash Flow method using the publicly available analysts’ estimate of the future rates of growth.
6. Financial Need Forecast: Estimate additional funds needed based on the expected one-year sales growth. State what should be based on financing need of financing surplus that you find. Do growth sensitivity analysis.
7. WriteRecommendation for Improvement: Provide a precise set of recommendations for improving the performance of your firm. This should be based on your work in steps I through 6. You can make use of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) analysis as well. If you would like, you may do additional analysis before writing this section 7. The report should be 10 pages, 1.5 spaced.
Sources of Data
Your project should use data from Bloomberg and from the CPP Library online databases. The data from the CPP Library should include, but not be limited to IBISWorld, S&P, Value Line Mergent Online, and the Conference Board. Use of additional authentic sources of information is recommended.

reading this week, fossils are historically the most important line of evidence about our distant past, but they can be extremely difficult to find. Important fossil discoveries like Ida still make headlines in magazines and newspapers for good reason. As the fossil record grows, so too does our understanding of the past and important new discoveries can rewrite our understanding of the evolutionary past.
For this assignment, you are to find an important fossil discovery that paleontologists or paleoanthropologists have made after the year 2000.
Your fossil must be a hominin or an ancient primate
. You can think of the story of
Darwinius massilae
above as a model for your assignment, though I was also trying to illustrate some important concepts for this module, so you do not need to be quite as thorough as I was.
Start by googling important fossil discoveries and find one you think is interesting and important. Remember, your
fossil must be either a hominin or an ancient

While Wikipedia pages vary in quality and detail, they are often useful and for fossil discoveries can help lead you to additional sources, including academic ones.

Lab Purpose and learning objectives
1. Report, describe, and interpret your observations of several features found in the Pacific
NW.
2. Formulate a hypothesis explaining how several landform features relate to each other and
explain what took place to create them (Your story).
3. Use the scientific method to structure your exploration and explanations.
Instructions and Overview
Step 1. a. You are going to investigate and solve a mystery about a geological phenomenon in
our “backyard”. You will be given several pieces of evidence and multiple clues and
hints containing geologic information for you to observe, formulate hypotheses about,
and interpret.
b. Using the eight pieces of evidence provided, and the large map of the Northwest with
their locations, make observations and interpretations and record these in the table
provided (see page 6). You will type these up and upload these to Canvas.
c. Hints are provided along with the evidence to help guide your group and should be
used for discussion when making your observations and interpretations. You do not need
answer these questions in your report. However, discuss each question as a group to
learn about each piece of evidence so that you can come up with plausible interpretations
and observations.
Step 2. Once you have investigated all eight pieces of geological evidence and have recorded
your observations and thoughts, sit down with your group and develop a narrative of
what you think happened based on the evidence. Include the ways each piece of evidence
supports your description, i.e., what does your clue indicate about the larger picture. For
example, the presence of a sesame seed on my shirt might mean that I recently ate a Big
Mac, but it could also mean I ate a sesame bagel.
Step 3. Using the scientific method (see page 5) write, independently of the group, a clear 500-
600 word lab report compiling this information into a narrative explaining, or solving, the
Pacific Northwest Geologic Mystery. Note the typed tables of should be attached as

1. Explain that the students will be constructing a primate dichotomous key. A
dichotomous key is a biological tool used to classify organisms into distinct
categories. It is constructed of several couplets (a set of two statements). Each
statement of the couplet describes a certain characteristic of the organism being clas-
sified. Then a choice is made between the two statements that best fits the organisms.
The initial couplets are constructed with statements that contain broad characteristics
of the organisms being classified. For example: apes vs. monkeys. As couplets
progress in the dichotomous key, the characteristics become more
specific. For example: weight (under one pound) vs. (over one pound).
2. Write the primate list on the chalkboard or copy on an overhead. Explain that these
primates will be classified by the dichotomous key.
3. Divide the class into groups of four. Each group will be responsible for constructing a
unique primate dichotomous key for the primates listed on the board.
4. Allot time for the student groups to research the primates on the list (internet, library,
or other resources). Explain that students must research each primate on the list to
complete the dichotomous key.
5. Give the students the following hint to begin their dichotomous key. The first couplet
should be “apes vs. monkeys.” This will divide the list of ten primates into two
groups of five. The students will then have to determine the differences between apes
and monkeys and sort the primate list into their designated categories.
6. Remind students that the main purpose of a dichotomous key is to make it user
friendly. Therefore the keys should be constructed so that an anonymous person or
group can yield the same results or classification using the key. This will require that
each statement of the couplets have an explanation underneath it.

human evolutionary process. There are thousands of fossils, mostly fragmentary. These
consist of single bones and isolated teeth and more rarely, complete skulls and skeletons.
Fossils yield loads of information but interpreting and understanding the data is complex.
Fossils are usually arranged in temporal sequences and approximate ages are determined
by radiometric and/or incremental dating techniques. Species designations represents
current consensus and are sometimes reclassified when evidence indicates they should.
Most hominin fossils are not considered direct ancestors of Homo sapiens but are closely
related to direct ancestors and are therefore important to the study of the human
lineage.Instructions1. Conduct any necessary research and gather all materials and
information to complete the assignment.2. Lay out and design each page of your documet to
make sure you include all the required items.3. Remember to concentrate on conveying
