Annotated Bibliography: A Kid in a Car
In the past, automobiles have improved in certain ways, from air bags to seat belts and better
brakes. But what about the little safety features that could prevent children from being killed? “In A Kid
in a Car,”a little girl, was left unattended in a vehicle and died. Zoie was a two year old girl, whose father
laid her down in the back sit of his truckfor a nap. Her father left the truck on, and rolled the window
halfway down. When Zoie woke up, she tried to climb out the window but her knee pressed the electric
powered window switch and the window rolled up on her neck and she was strangled.
There have been many cases of children killed by being left in unattended cars. This could
happen to any child who is not watched, and who is left alone. Parents should care more about this
situation, and car mechanics should be figuring out ways to keep these things from happening. Maybe
adding sensors to the powered windows could help a lot in protecting children.My research paper will
notify parents and mechanics of the danger leaving unattended children around motor vehicles. My
research paper will reflect on this bibliography, which assists as a basis for my research.

This eBook talks about the new intelligent technology that has been introduced to vehicles. It
states that researchers have appointed a Freightliner called platooning. Also states that evaluations were
instructed to assess fuel consumptions, improve emissions with various platoon spacing.
This eBook was published in 2005, 8 years ago. I believe it is trust worthy because there are
vehicles that have these intelligent technologies. And it will be useful in my paper.

This data will help in my research paper because I will talk about what kind of technology they
need to add to vehicles, like; sensored windows, etc. In Intelligent vehicles, Bishop quotes, “An extensive
technology suite was integrated onto the vehicles, including sensors, actuators, and communication
systems” ( 234).

This article, by Debra Coats, states that “Each year, hundreds of children in the United States
younger than age 1 year die of injuries, much of which could have been easily prevented” (Coats 82).
It explains how children each year die from suffocation, car injuries, and others. And states that clinicians
should educate parents with children about the dangers of suffocation, car safety, falls, burns, and
choking. Show how to avoid these accidents; Suffocation: “…room-sharing without bed-sharing, and
avoidance of loose bedding.” (Coats 82), Car Safety: “car seats should be installed by the instructions
from the owner’s manual,” Home: “never leave a baby alone on a bed… discouraging playing near
windows.” And ends with telling about a program called Text4baby that sends educational text messages
to parents’ phones.
This article was published in2013. Coats didn’t write this article for fun; she wrote it to inform
parents about the dangers that could happen to their children. Coats isa RN, BSN, CRNP-FNP student,
who completed a pediatrics rotation. She also is an oncology nurse in Pennsylvania, worksin internal
medicine practice and an infectious-disease practice.Coats is trustworthy because of what she does in her
career, and she knows what she is talking about.
This article will be useful in my research paper because of the safety precautions that parents
need to take. Coats gives a lot of safety tips that parents could use to keep their children safe, gives them a
program they could use for help. I could use the care safety tips to relate to my story, even though it
doesn’t talk exactly about what happened in the story. Coats uses direct facts in the article which will
make my research paper sound more dependable.

In Designing the Innovation and Safety, the film shows how Volvo’s are improving on all kinds
of new safety features. The film also shows that they have added sensors to the Volvo, for pedestrians and
other cars so that the car will catch it before the driver. Not only does it improves on the safety, but
improves on the designof the Volvo, no one wants to be seen in an old car.
This film is trustworthy; it shows actual proof of how they are improving and why they are. There
are cars like these already out and people love them. So that shows that this film is reliable.
This film will be useful in my paper when I talk about how the technology has improved from the
past. “If you look back 30 years ago the safety elements were not the beautiful element of the Volvo.”
Fuhs, Allen E. Hybrid Vehicles and the Future of Personal Transportation. Boca Raton: CRC Press,

In this book, by Allen Fuhs, it explains the new future cars called Hybrid Vehicles; it states that
“one billion cars are to be on the roads of the world in the future.” It provides coverage of technology
involved with the manufacturing and operating the vehicles. It talks about the major components of
hybrid and other electronic vehicles, and discusses the concept and the production of hybrids as well as
the economics and safety issues of the hybrid vehicle. It explains the Hybrids history, how they work, and
the impact on the environment.
This book was published in 2009. Fuhs received a Bachelor’s degree in science in Mechanical
Engineering from the University of New Mexico. He also has a Master of Science degree and Ph.D. in
Mechanical Engineering, from California Institute of Technology. Fuhs started a career at 21, at the Naval
Postgraduate School in Monterrey, California. In the Space System Academic Group at the NPS, Fuhs
was presented with the first chairman and created the curriculum from scratch. During the George H.W.

Bush Administration, Fuhs was on the Vice President’s Space Policy Advisory Board for the National
Space Council. There is a lot more accomplishments that Fuhs did, which makes him very trustworthy to
use in the research paper.
This book has good information that I could use in my research paper. The book states that “The
manufactures have focused on the safety issue. Serious design and testing of safety has been
accomplished to minimize risk” (Fuhs 421). This quote can help me in my paper, saying that mechanics
are trying to make automobiles safer for everyone and put more safety feature in them.

This article talks about how car owners expect additional safety features and instead are focusing
on infotainment technologies. Even though they remain interested in the safe technology, they are more
interested in features and technology that keep them connected and entertained in their vehicles.
This article was published in 2012, which was nearly a year ago. James is the President of The
Blackstone Group; he was also Chairman of Global Investment Banking and Private Equity at Credit
Suisse First Boston. James is a graduate of Harvard College, and has an MBA from Harvard Business
School.
I’m going to use this article for my counterargument. My counterargument is that people say that
children are safe as they will ever be in vehicles these days. But in this article it states that “While vehicle
owners remain interested in the technologies that make their vehicles safer, they are turning their attention
more and more toward features and technologies that allow them to be productive, connected and
entertained while in their vehicles” (James 50). More and more people are taking their minds off of safety
and more on other things that distract them while they are driving.
