- 1. 1st page of my script, annotated. Fade in, from title page. It signals the beginning of a story as is conventional in all genres of film, sets a seemingly innocent and calm start because it’s a slow transition that slowly introduces a viewer to the setting. Useful for the editor as they need to know what elements to include in the final production. Slugline of a cottage setting sets an innocent scene preparing for the extreme contrast to come, sometimes seen in comedy movies, creates unexpected humour, draws attention to the general setting. Elderly woman character introduced first to make the audience feel comfortable and safe. Caps are useful for directors during pre production to identify them easier as well as separating what an actor needs to say/do, organises their parts. Broom introduced second, sat on her lap creating a sense of familiarity and security between the two, establishing an ongoing relationship. His eyes are closed, he is relaxed. Brackets are used for actions the actors do as they say their lines. Sudden, unexpected cut to the elderly woman’s grave matching the position Broom was sat in in the previous scene. This time, broom has is eyes open. Unforeseen moments like this are often found humorous, it’s a big part of action-comedy films. Simultaneously, a third character is introduced suggesting a swift replacement for the elderly woman. Characters are often cast aside to introduce new ones in both action as well as comedy movies, gives off a nonchalant manner. Already, we see Broom doesn’t like her much as he digs his claws into her creating tension between the two characters.
