Annabel Lee the best slide show ever By: Edgar Allen Poe Mandy Lewis, Nellie Pineda, Chelsea Tate, and William Allgood
Introduction This poem at first glance seems like a love story to some girl but it is really much deeper than that…
Paraphrase It was a long time ago in a kingdom by the sea. There was a woman who lived there and her name was Annabel Lee. She lived for nothing but to love and to be loved by me. We were both children in this kingdom. But our love was more than a just love, me and my Annabel Lee. The angels in Heaven were jealous of her and me. A long time ago in the kingdom by the sea came a cold wind that killed Annabel Lee. So her guards came and took her away from me and put her in her grave in the kingdom by the sea. The angels were jealous of Annabel Lee and me and that was the reason that they killed her. But our love was stronger than any kind of love. Stronger than those far older and wiser than us. And nobody, not even the angels or the demons, can take my soul from the beautiful Annabel Lee. I never go a night without dreaming of her. Every night I go down to her grave and lie by her side. The side of my darling, my life, my bride, my Annabel Lee.
This story has an abundance of underlying connotation “ With a love that the wingèd seraphs of Heaven  Coveted her and me.” The term angel has a connotation of beauty and perfection, meaning that the writer thought Annabel Lee was more than a human she was the essence of perfection. “ For the moon never beams…” The moon represents forbidden love and mystery. He mentions the moon in the part after Annabel Lee died. The angels had wanted the relationship that the author and Annabel Lee had so they killed her, now he can be with her no more. “ That the wind came out of the cloud by night, Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.” Night and chilling have a connotation of evil and mischief . The author uses the terms to make the angels who killed Annabel Lee look like the bad guys.
Tone Edger Allen Poe has a very happy attitude at the beginning of the poem but at the end he switches to a feeling of longing for his Annabel Lee, but he has great emotion for her and expresses that through out the poem.
There are a couple of shifts through out the poem At the beginning he talks about being in love with Annabel Lee, but when she dies he transitions to being angry at the angles for them killing Annabel Lee. After he gets over his rage, he decides that he will never fall out of love with his lovely Annabel Lee.
Themes When looking at the title after reading the poem we understand that this poem is a tribute to Annabel Lee. This is a story that states that love is everlasting, and if you truly love someone that love can never be destroyed.
