How We Kept Teacher’s Day

Since 1994 we celebrate World Teacher's Day. Our faculty isn’t an
exception: in the morning of the 5th of October, when entering the faculty, our
teachers were pleasantly surprised. The students welcomed them with flowers,
smiles and the most important LOVE. It was very pleasant to see them smiling and
happy, it was a pleasure to know that we made them happy.
It was very important for us to thank our life teachers. Sometimes we
don’t appreciate all the work they make to improve our knowledge and shape our
personality. Their work is the hardest and, at the same time, the most beautiful in
the world, and we will be eternally grateful to them.
Having this unique opportunity, we would like to thank all the teachers
that are with us: Iulia Ignatiuc, who is always understanding and open-hearted, we
thank you for guiding us in our student life; Victoria Condrat, always smiling and
helpful, we thank you for your trust in us. We should mention the teachers from
English chair, headed by Ana Muntean: Valentina Smatov, Zinaida Bors, Viorica

That beautiful morning was the result of all the students’ involvement
in this celebration. The event was organised by the dean of
students office. We would like to mention that the office is
currently looking for active members, and is always happy to
welcome new members. The mission of the dean of students
office is to organize different extracurricular activities, cele-
brate various holidays and other interesting charity activities.

To My Inspiring Teachers ,with Love

Teachers! Who are they? Simple people? No, they are more than this! They are sellers of dreams; dreams that are to be
bought with attention, and patience.
“Teacher” is one of the most frequently used words in every person’s vocabulary; it is second to “mother”. We begin to
use it from the age of 7, maybe earlier, and we continue using it all our life.
It goes without saying that teachers are builders on earth. They build characters, personalities, and destinies. It is a big
responsibility as nothing requires so much power, knowledge, and kindness. Being a teacher is not just a job, it is an art that does
not require only talent, but also a lot of hard work. Not everyone is able to become a Great teacher.
Thinking of teachers, my thoughts fly to everyone who had an impact on my knowledge, ideas, and personality. And,
unfortunately, they are not many, but they are the best. I can not help admiring their enthusiasm, their
aspiration for a better future, even for a better world, their patience, and their constant hope that young
people are capable of changing things from worse to better.
Being thankful and grateful to our teachers is not enough at all. Our mission is to apply all their
knowledge n our lives and make their hopes become true. It’s not easy, but it’s the highest mark a teacher
may get from his or her students. Let’s make them happy and let’s make them understand that their pen
has built a real Person.
Balti, here I am!

I received the email
shortly after 9am on
September 1st. It was
one of those lazy Mi-
ami summer days. It
was official, I would be
returning to Balti!!!
I first arrived in Balti on 14 September
of 2008. In 2008, if you remember correctly
the winter was quiet cold but what exagger-
ated the cold was the lack of heating. It
was under these trying circumstances that I
realized something very peculiar. I was
cold and uncomfortable but I didn’t mind.
We were all cold, uncomfortable. We were
all in this together, I felt like a “Beltsonian”.
I depended on friends and friends on me,
vexing times deepen man’s humanity and
strengthen bonds with other human beings.
My father always says “the people
make the country”. Moldova is a very hum-
ble country, but what Moldova lacks in
material things she makes up for in the
beautiful souls of the people. I can hon-
estly say, with no hesitation that I have met
some of the most gorgeous, humble and
gifted people in Moldova. I am continually
impressed with abilities of my students
here. I’m always excited to meet and work
with them. I, like most teachers, love my
job and love teaching my students. I wish
Moldova and especially Balti lots of Love.
She holds a special place in my heart and
she will be there forever.

Halloween

The last night of October is always the one to look forward to as it is Halloween time, and this means kids run-
ning around in costumes, knocking on people’s doors and uttering their well-known threat: “Trick or treat!’.
Halloween has had many influences from many cultures over the centuries. The pagans who lived in Britain
two thousand years ago celebrated their New Year on November 1st. Then the Christians came and people
celebrated ‘Hallowmas’, a three-day festival between October 31st and November 2nd. October 31st was called All Hallow’s Eve,
and slowly the name changed to Halloween.
In November, winter is near, and hundreds of years ago people believed that bad spirits, like ghosts, came in winter. To make
them go away, people made fires outside and used autumn fruit or vegetables, usually a pumpkin, to make jack o’lanterns. People
cut a hole in the pumpkin and put a candle inside. To make the bad spirits go away, people dress like supernatural figures such as
monsters, ghosts, skeletons, witches, and devils. In these costumes people go to Halloween’s parties and play games. One of the
most popular is Trick-or-treating game.
Trick-or-treating is a customary celebration for children on Halloween. Children go in costume from
house to house, asking for treats such as candies or sometimes money, with the question, "Trick or treat?"
This means that the person in the house must decide. Either they give the children a treat (like fruit or
chocolate) or the children will play a trick on them. For a trick the children sometimes throw something like
an egg at the house.

Funny Story on Students’ Life

At noon, on October 5th our Faculty looked liked a
ghost town. That chilled me to the bone as I got the
feeling that our students had been kidnapped by
aliens. I could only imagine what they would be doing
at the witching hour that day. Definitely celebrating
Teacher’s Day and acquiring a new skeleton in their
cupboard. Somehow they managed to spirit away
the news that nobody would lead a witch-hunt
against them on Monday. However, they had decided
to leave a skeleton staff in the classrooms, just in
case there would be someone after their blood.
Just a reminder that Halloween is coming soon!!!
“The witch-hunt has begun”. The note is short and
clear. Everyone is hiding a skeleton in his bloody
cupboard, but this one is chilling to the bone, it’s too
much to bear and…Now he is sure the “skeleton staff”
will come take his life at the witching hour, and the
cause he believes in will be forever lost…Unless…He
could spirit the codes away to a safe location and
hope that Stills will carry on his mission. They found out
about him, they were after his blood, but Stills was beyond any
suspicion. A weak smile changes the path of his tears. He is taking a
last look at the ghost town through his laboratory window, ignorant
of the fact that he is only a puppet dancing on a silly stage designed
by Stills – his only friend…

A former inspired student responding to her teacher’s request
One Halloween a trick-or-treater came to my
door dressed as "Rocky" in boxing gloves and
satin shorts. Soon after I gave him some goodies,
he returned for more. "Aren't you the same
'Rocky' who left my doorstep several minutes
ago?" I asked. "Yes," he replied, "but now I'm the
sequel. I'll be back three more times tonight
too."

Mary Shelley
1797—1851
Famous for Frankenstein, Mary Shel-
ley was a writer all of her life. The novel
was an important work for the acceptance
of women as credible contributors to litera-
ture.
She was Percy Bysshe Shelley’s wife whom she met in
1812, when he came to see her father. Their romance was
rather torrid and controversial, as Percy was married when
Mary ran away to France and Switzerland with him, at the
age of 16. The couple only married in 1816, after Percy's
wife, Harriet, committed suicide by drowning. Mary gave
birth to a daughter (1818), and a son, William (1819). Both
babies died, and she had a nervous breakdown. She also
had a miscarriage in 1822, the year Percy drowned.

It’s not my cup of tea…

I’ve read this book and I can’t tell that it is my favourite. I liked
some characters but not all of them. I liked the monster. Maybe
somebody will say that I’m crazy, but I really liked him. Yes, he was
a wretch and a killer but it wasn’t his decision to be born. It was
Victor’s egoism that unleashed all the calamities that followed. All
the victims should be attached to him, not to the monster. I really
understood the monster. All he wanted was to be loved. In my opin-
ion, a man can create such a thing when he knows its purpose, and
realizes the responsibility he has towards his creation.
I don’t recommend this book to other people because it isn’t
very interesting. It doesn’t have a happy end and nothing is clear
here . Maybe it is my opinion but this is how I feel about it. I had
great expectations about this book but I was a bit disappointed at
the end.
It is my cup of tea…

I have mixed feelings about the book. At the beginning
I felt curiosity, it was interesting for me to know what mate-
rial the monster was made from. When I read the confes-
sion of Victor's creation, I understood that he was unfortu-
nate and that he needed to be happy, to be loved, like
every human being. I felt sorry for the monster. But when
he became cruel and murdered Klerval and Elizabeth,
whom I really liked, I became puzzled. However, in my
opinion, Victor was also a kind of a criminal, because he
was the only one responsible for everything that had hap-
pened.
I liked this book. It reveals that we must be happy with
what we have and be responsible for the decisions we
make.
Victor Frankenstein’s Speech

I am Doctor Frankenstein. I have done terrible things in my life.
I’ve created a demon that was my reflection. I worked day and
night, forgetting about sleep and food. I studied through all the sci-
ence books, penetrating its dark corners. I basically spent my youth
to destroy my life. When my creation came to life, I felt dreadful
fear, I lost my mind, and my creation went out into the wide world
all by himself. Later on the wretch killed my entire family. My little
brother William…. Oh, my dear William, he was the first victim, and
poor Justine... I saw innocence in her eyes but I couldn’t help her.
Then my best friend Henry was murdered. And my pain increased
together with the loss of my darling, my love and my bride, Eliza-
beth! She embodied all the virtues existing in this world. And some-
times I think that I was in fact the one who had murdered the peo-
ple who were so dear to me.
I am the true monster, I rejected my ugly child. I killed all the
good beginnings in him. And that means that I murdered the people
I loved most. I vowed revenge, it became my life purpose, and it
burned my heart to ashes. At the end, I deserve everything that has
happened to me.
Monster’s Speech

I am a monster. I have no name. I am referred to as a
"creature", "fiend", " demon", "wretch", "devil", "thing",
"being" and "ogre". So I have been denied an identity from
the very beginning. My creator, Victor Frankenstein, driven
by the desire "to discover the secret of life." brought me to
life. However, I was doomed to loneliness. I was rejected
and misunderstood by everyone I met, even my creator
abandoned me. Nobody would give me a chance. And no
one cared that I was a sensitive, emotional creature who
wanted to share my life with another sensitive being like
me. I was also an intelligent and literate being, I read Para-
dise Lost, Plutarch's Lives, and The Sorrows of Young
Werther. I asked Victor to create a friend for me. He re-
fused at first, being horrified by the idea of the appearance
of a second monster. I convinced him at length. One night
he destroyed his new creation. I was very angry and I
vowed revenge. I killed everybody he loved. Victor also
vowed to devote the rest of his life to find me and to re-
venge… I only wanted to be loved…

Back from the USA

This year we had the opportunity to
visit the United States of America. It is a
unique experience. We met there a lot of
foreign students, boys and girls from
Turkey, Italy, Bulgaria. We liked this very
much because we found out a lot of inter-
esting things about their language, cul-
ture and civilization.
Although we did not have too much
time for traveling we managed to make two short
trips to Niagara Falls and Panama Rocks. We
liked there a lot. In our opinion, every tourist who
visits America should go to Niagara. It is an
amazing place. And those who look for contem-
plation should choose Panama Rocks
After these two unforgettable trips we had no
time for traveling, because we had to work a lot.
When we finished our work we went for four days
to Atlantic City, New Jersey. We stopped at
Resorts Casino Hotel. We met there a lot of
people from all over the world: Moldova, Canada,
Turkey, Egypt, Israel, Portugal, Spain, Germany, Russia, etc. The ocean
is very calm and relaxing. We enjoyed spending
our time there.
Our final destination was New York City. We
stayed there for three days. It was awesome. We
think that it is impossible not to know something
about it.. We stopped in Manhattan, one of the
five boroughs. The other four are The Bronx,
Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island. There are a
lot of places of interest, such as: Statue of
Liberty, Empire State Building, Times Square,
Central Park.
Time passed very quickly and we did not even notice when our
summer was over. We hope you will also have the opportunity to visit the
USA and discover its beauty by yourselves.

Say NO to Bad Habits!

We are living in some of the most difficult times. Young people can meet many challenges and sometimes choose the
wrong way. Thus, they might get lured into using drugs, alcoholic beverages, violence etc. as a deceptive means to solve their
problems.
Alcoholic beverages are especially very dangerous. They are basically legal drugs. You can buy them at every corner,
and they are not so expensive. For example, you can find a bottle of beer for 8 leys, and a carton of juice, as a rule, is much more
expensive. Thus, young people are daily exposed to a variety of alcoholic beverages with no restriction. They think that drinking is
a way to be more like adults. What they don’t know is that alcohol has a bad impact on our bodies.
When alcohol enters the bloodstream, it immediately starts damaging our body. It penetrates the erythrocytes, blood cells
that bring oxygen to the entire body. The result is that our brain doesn’t get enough oxygen, and this is how anoxia (lack of oxygen)
begins. It basically kills the neurons. This condition is called alcoholic euphoria. In the morning, all the dead brain cells get out of
our body with the urine. This means that if you drink a lot of alcoholic beverages, you can literally lose your mind. In addition, alco-
hol boosts the aging process.
Women should be careful as alcohol can ruin their lives. The effects are irreversible, and they will affect
not only their bodies, but also the lives of the would-be-children.
I realize that it’s a matter of personal choice. It’s your life and you are the one to make decisions. How-
ever, have you ever considered becoming a teetotal? Think about it! Everything is in your hands. Now it’s only up
to you! Choose!
All life is an experiment. The
