Summer camps have a positive economic and social impact on Maine. There are 198 state-licensed camps located across all counties, employing over 8,700 seasonal employees. Camps bring $310 million to Maine's economy annually through direct sales, indirect spending at local businesses, and induced consumer spending. In addition to being major employers and taxpayers, camps promote environmental education and stewardship of the nearly 17,000 acres they maintain across the state.
