An ecosystem consists of living organisms and their non-living environment. The habitat provides characteristics like temperature, seasons, water and soil that organisms are adapted to. All parts of an ecosystem are interconnected, as living things rely on each other and their habitat. Producers like plants and algae make their own food, consumers like animals feed on other organisms, and decomposers like fungi and bacteria break down dead remains. Humans are putting stress on ecosystems by overusing natural resources and causing pollution, extinction, and social injustice.
