Our inquisitive team of journalists cover key international events like CES, CeBIT, MWC, Computex and local exhibitions like CommunicAsia, IT SHOW, PC SHOW, COMEX and SITEX.
In our tests, an Ultrabook prototype improved performance dramatically over a 2010 laptop system in every area we tested. The Ultrabook prototype reduced boot time by 74.7 percent, launched common applications up to 57.6 percent faster, provided up to 2.75 times the graphics performance, increased battery life by up to 52.6 percent, and encrypted a hard disk 2.5 times faster than the 2010 laptop we tested. It also provided a responsive touch-screen interface.
The benefits of replacing your older laptop with a new Ultrabook are clear: you can get more performance and a better experience out of a sleeker, more easily portable Ultrabook system.

Cloud computing and platforms like Windows Azure promise to be "the next big thing" in IT. This is certainly true as there are a lot of advantages to cloud computing. Computing and storage become an on-demand story that you can use at any time, paying only for your effective usage. But this also poses a problem: if a cloud application is designed like one would design a regular application chances are that the cost perspective of that application will not be as expected. This session covers common pitfalls and hints on improving the cost effectiveness of a Windows Azure solution.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

OPENING VIDEO WILL BE APPROXIMATLEY 90 – 120 SECONDS IN LENGTH. IT WILL BE A SLIGHTLY-CUSTOMIZED VERSION OF TOM KILROY’S OPENING VIDEO FOR COMPUTEX. THE VIDEO WILL ESTABLISH THE INCREDIBLE SPEED WITH WHICH INTEL LED THE INDUSTRY IN BRINGING ULTRABOOK TO MARKET WHILE RECOGNIZING THAT USER “EXPERIENCE” IS NOW THE DRIVING FORCE BEHIND THE EVOLUTION OF COMPUTING CAPABILITIES. IT ENDS BY POSITIONING ULTRABOOK BASED ON 3RD GEN CORE AS THE KEY TO “A NEW ERA OF COMPUTING.”
A little over a month later, we publically announced our intention to create a new category of computing device we call Ultrabook. A device that would bring the very best of the notebook PC experience together with the always-on, always-updated experience previously associated only with Smartphones and Tablets.
As I mentioned, it was almost exactly a year ago that we first publicly announced Ultrabook.
Within 90 days of that announcement, we had organized the first UB Symposiums in Taiwan and China, and Intel Capital had announced a $300 million fund to accelerate and foster PC innovation around this new category.
By the Fall, the first wave of Ultrabooks were on the shelves…
And soon after, Intel CEO Paul Otellini announced that there were more than 60 Ultrabook designs planned for 2012.
In November, Intel Capital established the $100 Million AppUp fund to drive innovation in software and application development…
No wonder then that by the time the Consumer Electronics Show rolled around in January -- 2012 was being called the “Year of the Ultrabook.”Which brings us to today…
We believe Ultrabook based on 3rd Generation Core represents nothing less than a new era in computing. Much like Centrino Wireless Technology brought true mobility to mainstream computing beginning in 2003, Ultrabook will bring a new kind of user experience to the mainstream beginning today: uncompromised performance and unprecedented responsiveness, available in a wide range of thin, light, and stylish form factors.
As you saw in the video, the campaign has already been rolled out in a number of countries, extending across the entire spectrum of both traditional and new media. We want the world to know that Ultrabook is truly something special. And that we are just at the beginning of this new era.Of course, new eras don’t usually just happen on their own; there’s always some kind of driving force behind the transformation. And behind this new era is an unprecedented coming-together of the industry-wide ecosystem to create an entirely new product category in less than twelve months – something that required an incredible degree of effort, cooperation and innovation.
But it’s important to recognize that not all types of responsiveness come through pure horsepower; much of what makes for a smooth, seamless and responsive experience with Ulrabooks built on 3rd Gen Core is the result of new technologies such as Intel Smart Response technology. With Intel Smart Response users can get a near SSD-quality experience without sacrificing the storage capacity or affordability of a mechanical drive. And these are significant, readily appreciated improvements. Like launching games up to twice as fast or doubling storage I/O performance.Again, the benefit for the user is a more seamless, uninterrupted experience.
Today, more than ever, people depend on their technology to store their memories, to connect with friends, to shop and bank online – a large part of their life is tied to their PC. People want to feel safe, secure and protected. They want peace of mind. And when it comes to being more protected, Ultrabooks based on 3rd Gen Core also deliver on the Law of More with Intel Anti-Theft and Intel Identity Protection technologies.
We know that while security is an important aspect of the user experience, many users are intimidated by the prospect of implementing and maintaining it on their own systems, so we’ve created a great Out of the Box experience with Intel Anti-Theft – which helps deter theft and protects your digital assets. Note to presenters:Slide is showing screen shots of what the end user experience might look like depending on the OEM implementation. Reminder window might pop up and/or the user can launch the service from the desktop, task bar, or from the start menu.
And we’re seeing great momentum with Anti -Theft service providers around the world.
A year ago, the service was limited to the U.S.
Last October, we added Australia…
Followed by India in November…
And just last month, we made a huge leap in lighting up the world. Every green country you see on this map now has at least one service provider enabled. In total, we have ecosystem support for AT in over 22 countries and more than 11 languages.
This ecosystem includes McAfee, Norton, Absolute, and OneBe. In addition, Intel recently launched Intel Anti-Theft Service version 1.5, which includes expanded language support and an improved, simpler user experience.Today, all 3rd gen Intel® Core™ processor based Ultrabook™ systems are equipped with Intel® AT, and most will include an Intel® AT-enabled software solution free trial and/or a pre-paid subscription that an end-user can activate right out of the box.
Intel Identity Protection Technology is also enabled on every 3rd gen Intel® Core™ processor based Ultrabook™. IPT helps protect your accounts from identify theft and fraud and is also growing fast with new security ISVs and many major websites… The Intel® IPT enabled authentication ecosystem includes solutions available from : Symantec, Vasco, Nordic Edge, and all the other names you see on this slide – with even more to come in 2012. What’s important to note is that these names include worldwide leaders who cover a broad array of consumer facing ecommerce and banking websites, which gives us a very strong foundation on which to build.Today, you can alreadysee a number of websites online with IPT including MasterCard, Renren, PayPal, Banco do Brazil and Dinero Mail. And we expect many more major sites coming online with IPT this year.
Although consumers are quickly becoming more security-conscious, we all know that being more protected is especially important for businesses, and that’s where Intel® vPro and Small Business Advantage technologies come into play…
Today marks the start of the first vPro enabled Ultrabooks coming to market. These platforms will be part of Intel’s Stable Image Platform Program (SIPP), will have enterprise class security, and will support remote manageability capabilities. These new Ultrabooks with vPro will marry the mobility and style that business end users want, with the features that IT managers need to manage and secure their fleet.
And there’s one last “more” to talk about – more choice. This graphic is comparing what choice there “is“ today to what “will be”.With the next wave of 3rd gen Intel Core processor based Ultrabooks that starts coming to market today, there will be more designs to choose from, new options for enterprise IT, a wider range of available screen sizes, and we even expect to see lower entry level system price points. But we won’t stop there…
So, it’s a remarkable day in the history of computing. The paths of two industry-transforming developments have come together in a single road that leads directly to the future.Thank you.Thank you for being here to celebrate this milestone.
