• Andalusia is a region
in southern Spain.
The region consists of
8 provinces as
following: Almeria,
Cadiz, Cordoba,
Granada, Huelva,
Jaen, Malaga, and
Seville. The last one
being the capital of
Andalusia as well.

4. Andalusian architecture:
Andalusian architecture is noted for it's
decorative elements.
Andalusian architecture is a unique
architectural style that can be found in the
formerly Muslim-ruled areas of the Iberian
Peninsula, Al-Andalus, which feature some of
the most unique palaces, mosques, minarets,
and fortresses in Europe. Andalusian
architecture can be considered a rare
architectural gem in the continent.

7. • In the historical center of the municipality of
Palma del Río, in the province of Córdoba, is
the fortification that the Muslim dynasty of
the Almohads reinforced in the 12th century
as defence against Christian attacks.
Declared an Andalusian heritage site in
1985, the complex consists of the citadel
and the wall. The former preserves only
remains of its ground plans and the bases of
five turrets, the largest of which contains
the Chapel of Anguishes, while the wall is
practically intact, despite being invaded by
the city’s development.

10. • Project Description
• The project consists of urban beautification,
improving access and communication
between the chapel of Angustias and the old
Almohad fortress, in the historical district, by
creating an internal circuit of Cultural Interest
enrolled in the General Catalogue of
Historical Heritage Andaluz.
In addition, carry out the rehabilitation of the Chapel of the
Angustias making a new viewpoint to the city, a focus and
milestone forgotten and converted. The beautification project is
focused on two adjoining areas separated by the Almohad wall of
the city.

11. • 1. Area located between Calle “La Muralla” and Los Rosales
defined between an outer enclosure. Currently formed by
bars on base, between pilasters and the two towers of the
Almohad city walls that make up that corner on one of the
towers is hosted Chapel Angustias
2. Route that connects this area with the palace of the
Mesa Portocarrero San Pedro and the west facades (side)
of the Asuncion Parish your side until you reach the
square that houses the main facade , to the field space
delimiting the street Rio Seco
These two areas will be communicated through a
chromatic landscape acting , speaking simultaneously in
the Almohad wall that uses different textures , weathering
steel, water slides and various treatments of stone on the
ground, getting a new monumental for the city.

• MÁLAGA, SPAIN
• Palacio de la Aduana, located in the heart of
Malaga, in the cultural hub with iconic elements
such as the Cathedral, the port, the Roman
Theater and the Alcazaba, among others, is a
witness and protagonist of the last two centuries
of the city. This, together with the undeniable
architectural value of this neoclassical building,
completed in 1829, makes it more than adequate
to turn it into Museum of Fine Arts and
Archaeology of Malaga. In any case, despite all the
advantages listed, a series of performances
were necessary in the global building aimed at
enabling its use as a museum.

16. These were developed in the following areas:
• Urban:
The palace had lived so far absorbed,
turned inside with difficult access.
Its presence and use had become an
oppressive expression in the past. It is
therefore understood as a fundamental
objective of integration with its
environment so that the formal and
historical city could access the interior,
by opening its doors and windows. The
new urban connections, access and the
connection of external and internal
spaces respond to this.

17. • Architectural:
The project is designed from the respect and
promotion of the historical and monumental
condition of the building, looking for a perfect
match as an instrument of compliance with
the objectives assigned to it, while being
aware of the architectural moment in which
we operate, so the dialogue between
historical and contemporary was an essential
premise.

18. The works are thus defined as follows:
• General interventions:
the Palacio de la Aduana suffered a
terrible fire in 1922 which saw the biggest
transformation in its history in the
appearance and layout of the building.
The upper floors were burned,
disappearing the roof and intermediate
floors. In the reconstruction that took
place afterwards, these were replaced
with a metal structure and a flat roof, so
the original proportions of the building
changed.

19. The works carried out
recently are:
• 1.emptying the cubic
volume and
eliminating added
structures to the
level at which the
original elements
(ground floor vaults
and first floor) and
all facades were
preserved.

volume, to be
inserted between
existing facades and
by separating them in
tension with existing
horizontal floor plans
and vertical walls,
giving place to the
necessary space.

to the present day. It is

of Protected Buildings,
Elements, and Urban Groups
of Interest according to theof
the locality.

cataloged (Well of Cultural Interest) that
owns a very rich history millenary mixture
of civilizations that goes back to year 105
d.C. In Roman times. The Palace
Portocarrero offers its Roman legend,
archaeological remains both Roman and
Arab and a building with areas of the
fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.

30. Site Plan:
• The Palacio Portocarrero, together with its Spanish-Mudéjar style botanical
gardens surrounded by Almohade walls from the 11th-12th centuries,
forms a spectacular complex that is located in the heart of Andalusia,
between Cordoba and Seville. It is an architectural jewel that was hidden
and in ruins and after years of careful restoration it shines again.
• For 25 years now, the owners, Moreno de la Cova-Ibarra, dedicate their
efforts to the restoration of the palace, devastated during the civil war, to
achieve the reality that today we can contemplate and enjoy.
• Throughout these years, projects, formalizations, actions and interventions
have been carried out, which have been collected with their corresponding
projects.
