This document presents an agile process modeling approach called S-BPM for building information modeling (BIM) projects.
Current process modeling approaches for BIM like BPMN are complex and rigid. S-BPM offers a simpler notation that is more intuitive for domain experts. It also allows for executable process models that can be modified and tested throughout a project's lifecycle.
S-BPM models processes as simple state machines connected by message flows. This makes the models modular and flexible. It also bridges the gap between design and execution. The document argues that S-BPM can better support agility, multidisciplinary collaboration, and integrated data perspectives needed for BIM projects.

BIM and Augmented Reality in Civil Engineering - UOW Summer Project 19-20 (ft...MiaHuongNguyen
Summer research in UOW is an opportunity for students in their third and fourth years to be exposed to the professional environment of technical research where they participate in exciting projects supervised by UOW leading professors in the fields. Augmented reality (AR) has been around for more than a decade, however, the implementation of AR in civil engineering is still an uncommon aspect. Realising the potential of visualising BIM data via AR technology, prof. Tim McCarthy, who has instructed several civil projects that involve the use of AR such as Solar Decathlon’s Desert Rose, proposed a new project in which we will be developing AR configurations displayed through mobile phone applications instead of HoloLens.

A Digital Eurovision for European UnionRene Summer
A Digital Eurovision for the European Union – the next step for European Public Service Broadcasting without frontiers. Why and how we must increase the availability of public service broadcasting to the widest Pan-European use.
This paper aims to initiate a discussion in Europe about the future of mass media in relation to the possibilities that can be achieved through technological development and policy innovation to stimulate the rise of a Pan-European identity across the European Union. By classifying current affairs reporting (news, current affairs and documentaries) produced by/for public service broadcasters (PSB) to fall within the definition of Open Government Data, European policy makers will unlock access to a wealth of European PSB content for European citizens, journalists and new start-ups to access, interact with, aggregate and disseminate. Such policy innovation not only comes with the already acknowledged economic benefits associated with open data and data-driven innovation; it also helps stimulate the creation of a strong Pan-European identity through increased Pan-European access to national stories, news and identity projections.

Next Generation BIM
Sriram Sridharan, COO, Ineight
Today’s BIM solutions offer users an ability to view a three dimensional simulation of the stages of work and/or progress proposed to take place over the course of the project. These simulations are primarily leveraged during the pre-construction phase of a project. The simulation combines schedule data to design plans resulting in what is referred to as a 4D BIM solution. When a software expert designs the model to additionally reflect project costs within the proposed project, this is referred to as 5D BIM.
Level up in product development? • Engineering streamEnginia
Introduction to Business for Software DevelopersChris Cera
This talk tries to teach to give some basic business guidance to software developers that are considering to become freelancers, start a new company, become freelancers, or consider other options other than getting a job.
Although it's been around for over six decades, Artificial Intelligence has become more popular now, thanks to the ever-increasing data volumes and revolutionary changes in the fields of compute and storage. Usecases such as discovery through data, progressive learning algorithms, predictions with incredible accuracy have made AI mainstream. But AI problems are very different from that of the conventional-software development. They are incomplete, resistant to modular approximations with possibly inadequate solutions. Design thinking greatly helps in solving such problems through several proven techniques such as empathy, stakeholder & scenario maps, prioritization grids, feedback grids etc. This talk summarizes how to improve efficiencies applying design thinking techniques to solve AI problems.

[Cib]achieving interoperability between bim and gis finalAna Roxin
Presentation given Thursday, September 19th 2019 at CIB W78, at Northumbria University, by Elio Hbeich (1st year PhD student). After a brief summary of main issues related to BIM/GIS interoperability, we depict our conceptual approach for achieving BIM/GIS semantic interoperability. This approach relies on a) federation among GIS and BIM bodies of knowledge , and b) granularity for defining and linking abstractions of the overall knowledge.
After a quick presentation of the main issue with BIM today (following Mark Baldwin's post), Linked Data principles are defined and exemplified in the context of BIM (ifcOWL). An example is provided regarding how IFD, QUDT and ifcOWL vocabularies could be linked. Finally, three main application areas for BIM are presented. Links are given to main work done in the field since 2016.

This white paper outlines the proposals from the Linked Data Working Group (LDWG) on how technologies and approaches that are common to the domains of Semantic Web, Linked Data, and the Web of Data (hereafter jointly called ‘Linked Data’) are related to Model View Definitions (MVDs). After a brief introduction of both the MVD concept (Section 1) and linked data technologies (Section 2), two main topics are discussed:
● Technical: handling MVDs with Linked Data technologies (Section 3)
● Industrial use cases: making most from the traditional MVD approach and Linked Data technologies (Section 4)
The purpose of this white paper is to discuss how Linked Data technologies and approaches could be effectively deployed to support industrial use cases that are typically related to the generation, use and maintenance of MVDs.

COBieOWL An OWL ontology based on COBie standardAna Roxin
Presentation made on October 28th 2015, at The 14th International Conference on Ontologies, DataBases, and Applications of Semantics (ODBASE2015), Rhodes, Greece.
We describe our method for semi-automatically conceiving an OWL ontology for the COBie standard starting from a COBie spreadsheet template. We call this ontology COBieOWL and we populate it directly from COBie spreadsheet data files as used by building actors. We also discuss various benefits of adopting our approach, for example: it reduces semantic heterogeneity of the COBie model.
