This music video tells the story of a woman singing about how men don't change and are often liars and cheaters in relationships. The artist, Amy Dalley, plays the guitar and sings while also portraying the narrator of the story about her friend Lisa's relationship with an untrustworthy man. Through a combination of the artist's performance and jump cuts between her and the other characters, the video conveys the message of the song in a realistic yet comedic way to engage the target audience of men and women who have dealt with unreliable partners.
2. Introduction My chosen video is by Amy Dalley and is called “Men don’t change”. The video is part of the album ‘Its Time’ and was released on 19th January 2009. The video is directed by Michael Salomon and has a time length of 3 minutes and 10 seconds. The song is about the singer and her friends who are all in relationships and how all men are the same, cheaters and liars. Yet, women always give them a second chance.
3. Type Of Video The music video is a Performance/Narrative video as the artist herself is singing the song and plays the guitar but at the same time she is telling a story of her friend ‘Lisa’ who is in a relationship with a man who’s a liar and cheater. The video plays on the idea of how men always get away with things that take place in relationships but also has elements of comedy in it. Also, there is an obvious connection between the lyrics and the video as whatever she is singing is shown on screen.
4. Target Audience I think that this video is most probably targeted at men and women who are in a relationship or have been in relationships as the whole song is based on the idea that men are liars and cheaters, yet, women cannot resist them because they like men. The video is realistic but is shown through comedy which shows the irony of the relationships that men and women have.
5. The Artist and The Video Most of the time the camera is focusing on the artist as she is the narrator of this narrative video and she is performing it too. However, at the same time there are a lot of jump cuts back and fourth to the artist and then to the other characters as she is telling a story and the lyrics are visually shown on screen. The atmosphere that this creates is quite realistic as the artist is playing on a real dilemma. However, at the same time there are elements of comedy used which sets quite a cool mood and makes the video more enjoyable to watch.
