2. Introduction
• Prior to beginning his career in the financial industry in New York City, Eric
Fornell attended the University of Oxford in Oxford, England, where he
earned a bachelor’s in philosophy, politics, and economics. Eric Fornell
also attended Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts, where he
earned a bachelor of arts in economics/English, while also earning a
Rhodes Scholarship.
Rhodes Scholarships are awarded to students of good character who have
shown a potential for leadership and have demonstrated outstanding
scholarly achievements. The scholarship provides the recipient with funds
to pay for graduate studies at Oxford University for two to three years.
The Rhodes Scholarship was named after Cecil J. Rhodes, an English-born
South African businessman who created a charity along with several other
benefactors to fund the scholarship program, which is administered by the
Rhodes Trust. The scholarship program also allows students to participate
in skills workshops, internships, and service and leadership retreats.
