SPECIFICATION(TOS)
(A REVISIT)
What is TOS?
TOS is a tool used to design a test or exam
The goal is to organize the material covered by comparing
number of questions devoted to each level and content of
the test
 It is a table or chart that breaks down the topics that will
be on the test and the number of tests question
Why TOS is important?
It improves content validity of teachers made test
 it helps determining the types and number of items
need to construct
 it helps to determine whether there is a
representative sample of questions on the test
Major columns of TOS
1. Competency to be tested
2. No. of hours per competency
3. Level of Cognitive Required
4. Number of items and percentage of the particular
competency

Using the new knowledge in a familiar or different context
Choose, demonstrate, dramatize, employ, illustrate, interpret, operate,
schedule, sketch, solve, use, write, implement, use, execute
Sample Questions: 1. Solve using PEMDAS rule: 3 + 6 (5-7)
2. What are the other ways to reduce carbon
emission/footprint?
3. What kind of fertilizer will you apply to a pechay plant
if you want it to be healthy and leafy?
Analyzing
Breaking the new knowledge down into discrete parts and identifying how the
parts relate to the whole
Differentiate, attributing, organizing, appraise, compare, contrast, criticize,
discriminate, distinguish, examine, experiment
Sample question: 1. Batay sa linyang nabasa, ano ang emosyong nais ipabatid
ng may akda?
2. Which of the following mathematical statements is true?
3. Alin sa mga sumusunod na snaryo ang nagpapakita ng
pagdadalaga at pagbibinata?
Evaluating
Making Judgement and critiquing, making decisions based on
reflection
Critique, appraise, argue, judge, select, support, value, evaluate,
reflect
Sample question: 1. (Given Ana her solution on the math problems)
in what steps did she got wrong ?
2. Do you agree with the view of the author regarding
abortion? Why?
3. Kung ikaw ang awtor, ano ang magiging katapusan ng
kwento? Bakit?
Creating
Putting pieces together to form something new
Generating, producing, planning, assemble, construct, create,
design, develop, formulate, write
Sample Questions: 1. Give other ways to maintain cleanliness
2. Make a slogan about integers usefulness
3. construct a diagram of a food chain
Step 1: Determine the coverage of your
exam
 the competency to be included in the test
Select only the most important competencies
Step 2: Determine the duration for each
content area
Specify the number of hours spent for teaching a particular topic
Go back to lesson plans or curriculum guide
Step 3: Determine the total number of
test items
Keep in mind that certain type of questions required a certain
length of time for students to complete an item
Step 4: Determine percent of test
devoted to the content area
= (time spent teaching the content/total time spent of the
coverage) 100
STEP5: Determine the no. of items per topic per content
STEP 6: Determine the levels of difficulty and their percentage in the
examination
STEP7: Determine the no. of items for each topic per level of
difficulty
