To Whom It May Concern:
This is a letter of recommendation for Lauren J. Wire, who was an intern in the Alumni Services Office at Millersville
University of Pennsylvania (MU) from January 19, 2010 through May 14, 2010. Lauren was an undergraduate student
at MU and served as our third communications intern, to which I served as her direct supervisor. Lauren worked
approximately 15 hours/week in our office, as well as at the campus related events/meetings she was directly
involved with during her internship. This internship assisted me with the planning and execution of a major
entertainment program and various other community-based related meetings, events and programs:
o The Millersville Community Parade (a one-day special event including 2000 participants);
o Millersville Business Association(to which I serve as the Secretary); and the
o Millersville 250th Anniversary initiative (to which I serve as the Co-Chair of a year-long celebration).
Her intern duties entailed concurrent multiple projects during this semester, some of which are outlined below, but
were not limited to:
1. Assisted in the development of a marketing plan and the coordination/execution of related materials including press
releases, articles, posters, mail pieces, banners, etc. for the Millersville Community Parade, community-based events
(under my authorization), and some offered by Alumni Services, the Millersville Business Association and/or the
Millersville University Alumni Association.
2. Assisted in performing clerical related functions and communications of the Millersville Community Parade and the
Millersville 250 initiative, including sponsor letters, volunteer correspondence, entertainment related bookings,
participants, committee correspondence, logistics, etc.
3. Contacted and secured entertainers for the Millersville Community Parade.
4. Assisted in the coordination of planning and executing meetings and events prior to the Millersville Community Parade.
5. Attended special committee and staff meetings relative to parade planning topics.
6. Assisted in identifying sponsor prospects for programs, and potential entertainers for the parade.
7. Assisted with pre-planning of Millersville Business Association meetings and programs.
I recommend Lauren for any position where she can utilize many of her talents that she has developed and refined
during her short period with us. She has surpassed the minimum requirements of the job description of the Alumni
Office communications intern. Her skills are very good, not only in computer-related areas, but also in the areas of
both oral and written communication, including developing documents (including press releases), brochures,
newsletters, scripts and related reports (involving extensive internet and/or phone research). She is a pleasant young
woman with a dedicated degree of motivation and dependability. She also has had the experiences of working
independently, as well as in a group setting (including full-time staff and volunteers of people of many ages, cultural
and ethnic backgrounds). She possesses very good organizational skills, as well as good customer service qualities.
She is a personable, pleasant young professional who has a good sense of working in an office environment, social
event or small or large group committee. If I can be of any further assistance in providing information relative to the
candidacy of Lauren Wire, please do not hesitate to contact me. Lauren would be an asset to any organization, higher
education institution or business to which she is hired or attends!
Sincerely,
Steven A. DiGuiseppe
Assistant to the Vice President for Alumni and Community Relations
A Member of Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education.
