Community Activities
In February 2015, I became a member of Kendall College of Art and Design’s Illustration
Society. During my involvement, I worked as the Donation Organizer for our participation
with KCAD’s 2015 Spring Benefit, collecting and archiving items, promised services, and
monetary donations from local businesses that would be auctioned off during the event.
During my work as a Media Photographer for the FIRST Robotics Competition Team 3568,
the Linden RoboEagles, I returned every January-March, through 2011-2015, to
photograph the team at each of their competitions and two of their State Championships.
Aside from the task of photographing the matches, my photos served to record the team’s
progress throughout their build season, as well as aiding them to refining their robot based
on previous builds.
From December 2014 to January 2015, I worked as a Media Photographer for the FIRST
Robotics Competition Team 7031, the Linden Battle Blazers, photographing their team for
two of their competitions.
October 2, 2014, I volunteered for the Grand Rapids Children’s Museum Kids ArtFest. I
worked at the face-painting stand, literally brightening their faces painting while listening
to their day.
October 28, 2012, I volunteered at John Ball Zoo’s Zoo Goes Boo, which is a Halloween
themed day for children that offered fun crafts, games, and the chance to see the animals. I
had participated with the Grand Valley Swing Dance Club that I am involved with, providing
live entertainment and teaching any who were willing how to swing dance.
4. In September 2012, I became a member of Grand Valley State University’s Swing Dance
Club. I am no longer involved with the club.
September 30, 2012, I was a live artist working at the Grand Rapids Children’s Museum Art
Day. I had set up to work on my illustrations, and passing children were free to watch and
approach me about being an artist. With this, I inspired children and encouraged them to be
creative.
During my participation in the National Honors Society, years 2009-2011, I volunteered
weekends at a Last Chance Animal Rescue branch located in Brighton, Michigan. There, I
helped care for the animals as they were displayed for adoption by setting up the cages,
feeding, brushing, and walking the cats and dogs, as well as socially interacting with the
children and parents there to adopt.
From 2007 -2011, I was a member of the Linden High School Marching Band Color Guard.
Participating in this sport taught me teamwork, dedication, and diligence; the building
blocks to being a good leader. In my final year, I was voted a section leader of the color
guard, which made me utilize my organizational and managing skills to direct the guard
when we were not under the supervision of our band director or our color guard instructor.
