2. Subverting
Magazine
Conventions
Just the main
image used
for the main
cover,
although
some
magazines
such as
Billboard do
this; this
magazine
contains a lot
more sell
lines so that
any unneeded
white space is
filled
Smaller
Promotion
Badge is given
to reader and
fits target
audience as
badges are
popular with
teenage girls
Sprite

promotion as it is able to be sponsored by
the brand since consumers may drink it
when listening to music
Film Strip

instead of

line, fits in
with image
size
School

main picture
is zoomed out
to show the
school
environment
School Magazine has no main sell
line while Music magazine does to
associate with picture
Indication of magazines

while school

unwanted

5. Magazine Contents Page
Comparison
Music magazine has subscription offers
while school magazine does not
School

proper title
while music

Both have smaller text underneath
page description
Name of Page Shown in both but
Music Magazine has logo with it
Music
magazine
has short
story
coupled
with editors
comment
where as
school
magazine
has pictures
associated
with text
only
6. Reasons For Differences
• School and Music Magazines have different motives for
their target audience
• Dafont (font website) was not used in the process of the
school magazine
• School magazine was made from scratch without be being
on any other magazine, making the production harder
• I was less skilled in aspects such as cropping to particular
shapes and sizes which I can do now
• I have gained more experience about magazines and
presented all my newly gained knowledge on to my music
magazine, e.g. A consistent text font (Rod) was used as it
was easy and looks like a professional font that real
magazines would use
