The success of libraries in the future will be determined by its ability to create stories rather than provide them. One way to accomplish this is by putting technology and people together so patrons become creators in makerspaces or other learning environments. Discover great new learning technologies and techniques for patrons, and how to build your new fablab or hackerspace. Arm yourself with facts for having interactive spaces to get buy-in from everyone from staff to public to the IT teams. Lastly, we will discuss ways to continually train and engage the staff so that your environment will constantly evolve

First Floor
24
24
Our team decided to locate the International
classrooms on the first floor, just off of the main
entrance and lobby. This provided ease of access for
the students, while security for the rest of the building
since they will not longer have to go through multiple
departments to gain access to their classes. Their
instructor’s offices are directly off the elevator on the
second floor providing accessibility to the students.
We also decided that it would be best to locate the
Marketing and Communications department on the
first floor for the same reasons. They do all of the
photos for the newspaper and school, they may at
times have the entire sports team in for photos. This
provides privacy, since the main entrance is off of the
main lobby and they do not have to go through the
department.

Second Floor Our team decided to locate the International
department and the ORSP departments on the second
floor. The International Department requested
visibility, but does not require the prestige of the third
floor. The lobby on the second floor is a flag display
that can be seen from the exterior as a form of
wayfinding. The second floor provides the space
needed for their department staff, large classes,
entertaining, and events that they host.
ORSP is a small department that had less needs and
was fine with sharing a floor with International so
long as they had their own space and wanted a space
with lots of natural light.

Third Floor
The third floor is a level of prestige and so we
decided to locate the Department of Development,
a department in charge of all the funds and raising
of funds for the school. They meet with alumni and
donors, so the third floor gives the level of prestige
needed to entice donors.
The Graduation department works closely with the
department of development and uses minimal
space, therefore sharing the level with
Development Department only makes sense.

Walker Zanger Ads
Walker Zanger released several new product lines in January 2014,
but corporate had not yet produced any ads or literature for these
lines. Kathy Runnels, a Walker Zanger Regional Representative
asked me to come up with some promotional ads for the lines. So I
created ads that the image was easy to e-mail or print for a mail-
out postcard, a great size for a leave behind, and used Pantone
Color of the Year for 2014, “Radiant Orchid” for the background.
Walker Zanger Internship
While at Walker Zanger from 2013 – 2014 I had the opportunity
to learn and experience many wonderful things some of these
included:
• Organizing sample library
• Taking and putting together sample orders for clients
• Clerical things such as phones, filing, spread sheets, etc
• Design sketches, drawings, and renderings for clients
• Using Photoshop and Photography to create Ads & Cards
• Have a working knowledge of our products and services
• Create presentation packets and participate in educational
presentations for reps.
• Assist clients in their design selections

Photo Restoration at Walker Zanger
The original image was printed on a silver pearlescent card
with texture, making it difficult to see and read.
Furthermore, when scanning the image to e-mail to clients,
it did not read well.
Design Solution:
• Brightening the image piece by piece in photoshop
• Increasing the contrast, adjusting highlights, and adding
shadows
• I removed the pearlescent background, creating a new one
and designing snowflakes, adding them to give it
character.

Millennium Design Internship
During my internship I learned a lot about my own unique style
and how I work with others. It was a great opportunity for me to
learn how to multi-task following the lead of multiple designers
each working multiple projects and deadlines, while still
contributing my own unique design ideas. I learned to work under
pressure, often having to come up with solutions while on site
doing the install. The skills I practiced and grew in during this
internship were:
• Space Planning
• Custom Designs
• Selections
• Wood Work Detail
• Research
• Mural Design
• Developing Budgets
• Job Documents
Presentation Boards & Design Packets
Installs, Furniture Building, & Much More
*Permission to use photographs was given during internship.

Designing For Our Seniors
Video Link
Designing for the individual is very important
in the world of design. One must recognize that
each design has multiple users even in a home
design for a bachelor.
Most importantly how are we designing for
our users that require the most attention and
care like our youth and even more
importantly our seniors, the ones that
created our history and carry the secrets to
our past.
