MEDIA TEXTS RESEARCH
For the magazine cover, it was much easier
as I wanted to opt for a top film magazine
such as “EMPIRE”.
Here you can have a look at the resemblance
between the posters and the ones I created
for the film.
What media texts did you look at to
research your ancillary text?
When I was creating the poster and the
magazine cover for our film Alena, my principal
point was to create the best ancillary text that
the film deserved as well as the more appealing
and interesting for the audience.
Some of my inspirations for the film poster come
from other posters like the “1950s” ones, due to the
fact that the film is supposed to be a mixture
between our contemporaneous age and that era.
Later on, I opted for a more new, but kind of old
looking poster like the one made for the film “Three
Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”.
HOW TO APPEAL TO THE
AUDIENCE
How each ancillary text will appeal to the target audience?
From my perspective, the final ancillary texts (magazine cover & film poster)
I’ve created will appeal very effectively to our target audience as it is original
and innovative. Also, the quality is a really good factor in its favor as its looking
to catch the attention of the audience. Attractive and mysterious colors which
create a perfect combination.
Then, from the trailer, I believed it would appeal in a positive
way to the spectator and making them consider about going
cinema and watch the actual film. The trailer has a fast pace
and mysterious aura around it at all moment. It’s a clear
example of how thriller trailers should be made.
An elusive killer. Crimes. Blood. A Femme Fatale. Violence.
Fade ins and outs to create intrigue as small bits of
information, nothing definitive, only suggestions. In the trailer,
it is more attractive what is suggested that what is shown.
TEXT APPEARANCE
Where will the text appear?
It’s for sure that the trailer we presented for our film will be distributed
through social media apps like YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Vimeo,
etc. We chose those apps as the best place to show our trailer as well
as other propaganda of the film as these are the current social media
apps our target audience (16-25 approx.) might use in their basis.
Also, another way will distribute our final product is through different
film magazines. At the end, we opted to go with “EMPIRE” prestigious
film magazine as it is one of the most popular and read magazines all
over the globe.
ANCILLARY TEXTS
FORMATS
Why are these formats appropriate?
We are in 2018, and it’s clear that the way films are distribute has changed. Now, it’s all
about social media. People all over the world all connected all day to the Internet. That’s
why is much easier to present and distribute products to audiences, rather than doing it in
a more physical way.
In our case, as we are a small filming company, our way to promote our products is
through free social media apps like YouTube, where we can share content with everyone
we want, and through a mouth to mouth process, to let people know about our product.
AUDIENCE FEEDBACK EVALUATION
What did you learn from audience feedback?
From my personal perspective, I’ve learnt and improve a lot from all the positive and
negative I received about all aspects of the “ALENA”’s project.
It is for sure that all feedback helped Amir and me to improve and create a better product
to our consumers/target audience.
Here I leave you some examples of how the poster for the film went through different
stages until the final one you are looking right now.

  • 3. MEDIA TEXTS RESEARCH For the magazine cover, it was much easier as I wanted to opt for a top film magazine such as “EMPIRE”. Here you can have a look at the resemblance between the posters and the ones I created for the film. What media texts did you look at to research your ancillary text? When I was creating the poster and the magazine cover for our film Alena, my principal point was to create the best ancillary text that the film deserved as well as the more appealing and interesting for the audience. Some of my inspirations for the film poster come from other posters like the “1950s” ones, due to the fact that the film is supposed to be a mixture between our contemporaneous age and that era. Later on, I opted for a more new, but kind of old looking poster like the one made for the film “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”.
  • 4. HOW TO APPEAL TO THE AUDIENCE How each ancillary text will appeal to the target audience? From my perspective, the final ancillary texts (magazine cover & film poster) I’ve created will appeal very effectively to our target audience as it is original and innovative. Also, the quality is a really good factor in its favor as its looking to catch the attention of the audience. Attractive and mysterious colors which create a perfect combination. Then, from the trailer, I believed it would appeal in a positive way to the spectator and making them consider about going cinema and watch the actual film. The trailer has a fast pace and mysterious aura around it at all moment. It’s a clear example of how thriller trailers should be made. An elusive killer. Crimes. Blood. A Femme Fatale. Violence. Fade ins and outs to create intrigue as small bits of information, nothing definitive, only suggestions. In the trailer, it is more attractive what is suggested that what is shown.
  • 5. TEXT APPEARANCE Where will the text appear? It’s for sure that the trailer we presented for our film will be distributed through social media apps like YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Vimeo, etc. We chose those apps as the best place to show our trailer as well as other propaganda of the film as these are the current social media apps our target audience (16-25 approx.) might use in their basis. Also, another way will distribute our final product is through different film magazines. At the end, we opted to go with “EMPIRE” prestigious film magazine as it is one of the most popular and read magazines all over the globe.
  • 6. ANCILLARY TEXTS FORMATS Why are these formats appropriate? We are in 2018, and it’s clear that the way films are distribute has changed. Now, it’s all about social media. People all over the world all connected all day to the Internet. That’s why is much easier to present and distribute products to audiences, rather than doing it in a more physical way. In our case, as we are a small filming company, our way to promote our products is through free social media apps like YouTube, where we can share content with everyone we want, and through a mouth to mouth process, to let people know about our product.
  • 7. AUDIENCE FEEDBACK EVALUATION What did you learn from audience feedback? From my personal perspective, I’ve learnt and improve a lot from all the positive and negative I received about all aspects of the “ALENA”’s project. It is for sure that all feedback helped Amir and me to improve and create a better product to our consumers/target audience.
