A child was telling him that if he travels to Egypt he will find a hidden treasure, and he woke up
Curious to know the meaning of his dream, to understand his dream he went to an old gypsy
woman and she interprets his dream and ask him that he must go in order to fulfill his dream. In a
search of a merchant’s daughter (whom he had met before) Santiago enters the town of Tarfia,
where he meets a mysterious stranger Melchizedek, who seems able to read his mind, this man
introduce himself as Melchizedek the king of salem, and he speaks to him of his dream and the
location of the treasure. Melchizedek convinces the boy to embark upon a physical and spiritual
journey in search of both self and financial reward, and he told the Santiago about the omens and
gave him two stones Urim and Thummin which will help him to interpret omens.
Hungry for adventure, Santiago sets out on a journey from his homeland in Spain to the Egyptian
pyramid where Melchizedek suggests he will find treasure. Shortly after he arrives there, a thief
steals all Santiago’s money that he raised by selling his flocks so the shepherd boy decides to look
for a way to make enough money to return home, and at the edge of despair is forced into working
at a crystal shop, the conservative and kindly merchant teaches Santiago many lessons and
Santiago encourages the merchant to take risk with his business, the risks pay off and he makes the
shop successful. Once again and he was rewarded and become a rich man, and after working for
4. eleven months in the shop boy thinks that either he should go back as a rich man and buy more
sheep or continue his journey in order to find the hidden treasure, so he decide to pursue his dream
and he joins a caravan that will take him across the desert. While in the caravan Santiago meets
with an Englishman who was in the search of Alchemist whose age is 200 years, Englishman
wants to learn the secret of Alchemy, and to turn any metal into gold from a famous alchemist who
lives at an oasis on the way to pyramids. Santiago reads the Englishman’s books on alchemy and
learns a lot from the Englishman and they become friends while in the caravan.
In the middle of the deserts, the caravan arrives at an oasis where it is learned that it cannot proceed
due to the danger of the tribal wars, while at the al Fayoum oasis Santiago meets an Arab girl
named Fatima, and falls in love with her instantly. The Santiago thought that he had been a
shepherd and that he could be a shepherd again, Fatima was more important than his treasure, but
Fatima convinced him to continue his journey and to pursue his dream Maktub she said if I am
really part of your dream, you’ll come back one day.
During a walk in the desserts the Santiago witnesses an omen that pretends an attack on the
historically neutral oasis and he warns the tribal chieftain of the attack and as a result, they
successfully defend itself against the assault. The alchemist gets the word of Santiago’s vision and
invites Santiago on a trip onto the desert during which he teaches the Santiago about the
importance of listening to his heart and pursuing his personal legend, and he advises the Santiago
to finish a journey to the pyramids, and he offers to accompany Santiago on his trip.
Convinced by the Alchemist, they both leave the oasis and continue to the desert during their
journey the alchemist shares much of the wisdom about the soul of the world. After some days the
alchemist and Santiago was captured by one of the warring tribes. In an Exchange for his life and

no idea how to turn into wind and over the next three days he contemplates the desserts on the third
day and communicate with the wind and the sun and coaxes them to help him create a tremendous
sandstorm and he prays to the hand that wrote all and at the height of the storm he disappear and he
reappear on the other side of the camp, and the tribesman awed by the power of the storm and by
Santiago’s ability let him and alchemist go free.
Later Alchemist Demonstrates the Santiago his ability to turn lead into gold using the philosopher
stone and he gives Santiago gold and sets him off. And Santiago continue on to the pyramids,
arriving at his goal Santiago seeks to realize his treasure and begins to dig and he found nothing
buried in the ground and thieves beat Santiago and rob him of his money. One of the thief ask him
what he was doing here after he tell them about his dream, one of them recounts their own dream
about a buried treasure in the Sycamore tree by a church in Andalusia countryside and Santiago
realize that his true treasure is at the location where he began his journey.
Santiago then travels back to the Spain where he finds his treasure and reflects upon the journey.
Finally as the breeze picks up, he is reminded of the oasis and Fatima, to whom he vows to return.
And remembered his beloved and he told himself “I am coming Fatima”
6. Famous Quotes of Alchemist
This book has a number of punch lines which makes
the reader sit back and notice them.
When you want something, all the universe Conspires in helping you to achieve it.
I don’t live in either my past or my Future. I am interested only in the present. If you can
concentrate always on the present, you’ll be a happy man. Life will be a party for you, a
grand festival because life is the moment we’re living now.
My heart is afraid that it will have to suffer the boy told the alchemist one night as they at the
moonless sky. The Alchemist replied Tell your heart that fear of suffering is worse than the
suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams.

7. Theme of the Alchemist
Santiago’s journey and spiritual quest, the people he meets, the dreams he has, the omens he
encounters and the nature he speaks to, are all things that we can relate to, things that we have
either forgotten about or simple dismissed as childhood fantasies. Its theme is all about the
finding your personal legend and pursuing your dream regardless of any hurdles, and about being
spiritually connected to the universe which is part of us, and we all are one.
Personal Analysis
The alchemist is an enticing and inspiring novel filled with optimism. There are too many things
one can learn from the alchemist like The novel instill in us a belief that anything is possible if only
you could have the courage to believe in your dreams and pursue it, which is actually so difficult to
do and there are few people in this world who actually follow their heart and dreams. The author is
so right in saying that when you decide to follow your dreams the whole universe conspires in your
favor which he called as beginners luck and we all have been witness to this beginners luck at one
or other point in our lives. And to not believe in the biggest lie that you can’t control your destiny,
you can but you must read the omens which become possible when you start to see the world as the
one. The world can be read like a book but we will never understand it if we have closed existence
comprehend and unwilling to risk anything.
So live your life around the dreams so there will be more heart in your life that you can
comprehend and no heart ever suffered when it goes in the search of dreams because every second
of search is seconds encounter with God and with eternity. Another lesson learn from alchemist is
to embrace the present, there is no point dwelling in the past and letting it define you, nor getting
lost and anxious about the future. But in the present moment, you are in the field of possibility,
8. how you engage with the present moment will direct your life. Another to break the monotony
because gratitude is the practice of finding the good in each day, life become stagnant, mundane
and monotonous, but the changes depending on what we choose to see. There’s always a silver
lining if you look for it. And strive to become a better version of yourself and everything around
you will be better. And in throughout the story and search for alchemist I feel like this was more
like a metaphor for life in general if we follow a personal legend we can perform the same magic to
turn our ordinary lives into gold as long as we believe with journey and don’t give up on what we
believe in our destiny.
