The results indicate detection of Parthenium weed is possible using multispectral data and estimates of patch sizes will enable proper allocation of eradication resources, though optimisation is still needed to obtain accurate patch sizes

Bedrijven hebben namelijk altijd met veranderingen te maken. Zolang je niet vooruit kijkt en mee gaat met de tijd, wordt je met uitsterven bedreigd. Het vuur van de SALAMANDER staat voor innovatie, voor het aanpassingsvermogen in een veranderende omgeving. Iets wat voor veel bedrijven best lastig kan zijn.
Bruynzeel ging met dit vuur aan de slag. Inmiddels verstaan zij onder innovatie allang niet meer alleen de productvernieuwingen. Op 5 juni 2012 is de nieuwe Cookiewet in werking getreden. De OPTA heeft als toezichthouder de bevoegdheid om stevige boetes op te leggen bij overtreding van de nieuwe Cookiewet, al ontbreekt momenteel de mankracht om alle overtredingen te beboeten. Daar komt binnenkort echter verandering in. De OPTA gaat namelijk een geautomatiseerd systeem bouwen dat websites gaat controleren op het plaatsen van zogenaamde tracking cookies. Hierdoor wordt de pakkans aanzienlijk vergroot en naleving van de nieuwe regels des te belangrijker.
De nieuwe wet brengt echter nogal wat vragen met zich: want wat zijn nu precies functionele cookies? Wie is er verantwoordelijk voor third party cookies? Is er ook toestemming nodig voor het gebruik van Google Analytics? Vallen andere technieken om informatie te verzamelen ook onder de nieuwe regels? Kan toestemming voor meerdere websites worden verkregen?
Tijdens de meeting zullen Marianne Korpershoek en Femke Vos van Louwers IP|Technology Advocaten al deze vragen aan de orde stellen. Verder zullen er concrete tips en aanbevelingen worden gegeven voor naleving van de nieuwe Cookiewet. Atlas of Living Australia
The Atlas of Living Australia (ALA) is a collaborative project funded by the Australian Government to create an online resource of biodiversity data. It launched in 2010 and has since accumulated over 29 million occurrence records and images. The ALA aims to provide an integrated view of Australia's biodiversity through tools to support identification, taxonomy, biosecurity, conservation and research. However, funding for the ALA is set to end in 2012/2013 and securing ongoing support is a challenge.

De salamander leefde al ver voor de mensheid in de tijd van de dinosaurussen. Deze laatste heeft de evolutie niet doorstaan, maar de salamander heeft zich in honderden varianten aangepast aan de verschillende leefomstandigheden. Zijn aanpassingsvermogen is zo groot, dat hij waarschijnlijk ook de mens gaat overleven.
De salamander zou voor veel bedrijven een voorbeeld kunnen zijn.
Bedrijven hebben namelijk altijd met veranderingen te maken. Zolang je niet vooruit kijkt en mee gaat met de tijd, wordt je met uitsterven bedreigd. Het vuur van de SALAMANDER staat voor innovatie, voor het aanpassingsvermogen in een veranderende omgeving. Iets wat voor veel bedrijven best lastig kan zijn.
Bruynzeel ging met dit vuur aan de slag. Inmiddels verstaan zij onder innovatie allang niet meer alleen de productvernieuwingen. Zij zijn als bedrijf óók aan de slag gegaan met het verbeteren van processen en sociale innovatie. Het doel was om kosten te besparen, om slimmer te werken, om talenten te ontplooien, de medewerkertevredenheid te verhogen en nieuwe markten aan te boren. Op 5 juni 2012 is de nieuwe Cookiewet in werking getreden. De OPTA heeft als toezichthouder de bevoegdheid om stevige boetes op te leggen bij overtreding van de nieuwe Cookiewet, al ontbreekt momenteel de mankracht om alle overtredingen te beboeten. Daar komt binnenkort echter verandering in. De OPTA gaat namelijk een geautomatiseerd systeem bouwen dat websites gaat controleren op het plaatsen van zogenaamde tracking cookies. Hierdoor wordt de pakkans aanzienlijk vergroot en naleving van de nieuwe regels des te belangrijker.
De nieuwe wet brengt echter nogal wat vragen met zich: want wat zijn nu precies functionele cookies? Wie is er verantwoordelijk voor third party cookies? Is er ook toestemming nodig voor het gebruik van Google Analytics? Vallen andere technieken om informatie te verzamelen ook onder de nieuwe regels? Kan toestemming voor meerdere websites worden verkregen?
Tijdens de meeting zullen Marianne Korpershoek en Femke Vos van Louwers IP|Technology Advocaten al deze vragen aan de orde stellen. Verder zullen er concrete tips en aanbevelingen worden gegeven voor naleving van de nieuwe Cookiewet. The Atlas of Living Australia (ALA) is a collaborative project funded by the Australian Government to create an online resource of biodiversity data. It launched in 2010 and has since accumulated over 29 million occurrence records and images. The ALA aims to provide an integrated view of Australia's biodiversity through tools to support identification, taxonomy, biosecurity, conservation and research. However, funding for the ALA is set to end in 2012/2013 and securing ongoing support is a challenge.

This report provides a snapshot of the data collected by TERN in the Pilbara, Western Australia. Also included in this report is how to access the data, descriptions of data types, panorama photos and examples of research using TERN data. Plots on the Pilbara were first surveyed by TERN from April 2015 to August 2016. The surveys collected vegetation and soil, data and samples following the AusPlots Rangelands methodology, with 37 plots completed. Some of the plots were revisted in 2021. An updated version of this report will be provided as this data becomes available.

The Atlas of Living Australia (ALA) is a partnership between Australian natural history collections and biodiversity research groups. It is developing systems to provide integrated access to all classes of biodiversity data (including names and classification, geospatial data, images, sequences, literature, identification tools and species interactions). The central component will be an information repository which catalogues all data sources and makes them available to support research, policy and education.

1. Arthropods comprise about 70% of described species but are underrepresented in climate impact studies due to lack of occurrence data. Only about 10% of North American arthropod species have enough occurrence records (30 or more localities) to model climate impacts.

AusPlots
The AusPlots Facility aims to establish a national network of biodiversity monitoring plots across Australian ecosystems to collect baseline ecological data. Over 1,000 permanent plots will be located in the rangelands and forests using a stratified sampling approach based on bioregional groupings. Standardized surveys of vegetation and soils will be conducted at each plot to increase understanding of species distributions, threats, and carbon/nutrient cycles while also validating remote sensing. Engagement with state agencies and the broader ecological community is emphasized to integrate monitoring efforts and disseminate findings.

Effectively communicating the role of geoscience in environmental, sustainable development, and/or sustainable resource management, issues is not a straightforward process. For example it requires different approaches depending on the audience being addressed. The different audiences can be broadly classed as: scientists, governments, and the general public. The communication process is often complicated further by the difficulty that geoscientists/scientists can have in identifying the appropriate communication pathways to use if their endeavours are to be successful. Such pathways are not generally taught or explained during the formal scientific education process and as a consequence it may require considerable experience for individuals to understand the processes involved. As an example of the types of understanding required this paper outlines the designated/established geoscience communication pathways that exist in Australia for communication of geoscience both internally and internationally. The IUGS Commission on Geoscience for Environmental Management (GEM) has an International Working Group on Communicating Environmental Geoscience (CEG) (www.mun.ca/canqua/ceg/). CEG is keen to assist in promoting better understanding of the various geoscience pathways to be followed in individual countries to achieve successful communication. It is hoped that this Australian example may stimulate geoscientists in other countries to record and publish (in simplified formats) the appropriate pathways required to be followed in their country.

Long-term monitoring of tropical rainforests in eastern Australia has provided key insights into the maintenance of biodiversity, role of natural disturbances, and dynamics of vertebrate populations over decades. This research has informed management of invasive species and climate change scenarios. While only covering 0.2% of Australia, these rainforests harbor significant biodiversity and are culturally important. Ongoing threats include fragmentation, weeds, feral animals, and climate change. Long-term local investment in monitoring is critical to understanding community change over time.
Marine Biodiversity - Mark Costello - NRIC synthesis
This paper synthesizes findings from 15 regional reviews of the Census of Marine Life, a decade-long global study of ocean biodiversity. It finds that approximately 230,000 marine species have been described, representing just 20% of the total that are estimated to exist. Knowledge gaps remain large, with thousands of undescribed species in collections and hundreds of thousands likely still undiscovered. The deep sea and smaller invertebrates are particularly under-studied. Threats like overfishing and pollution endanger biodiversity across regions. Continued exploration and international collaboration are needed to improve understanding of ocean life and inform conservation efforts.

The publication contains the results of 33 interviews with people who, in 2022, have jobs relevant to soils. It is intended for use by secondary and tertiary students who are perhaps wondering what to study or which career might be satisfying - or maybe they have already chosen a soils-related career and are keen to learn something about others who they may meet as lecturers, coworkers or employers.

GEOSS Ecosystem Mapping for Australia
This document describes mapping ecological facets across Australia by analyzing the key drivers of ecosystem formation - macroclimate, lithology, landform, and vegetation structural formations. 59 homogeneous bioclimatic regions were mapped based on clustering uncorrelated bioclimatic variables. Lithology and weathering intensity were derived from existing Geoscience Australia data. Landform was characterized through land surface form and topographic moisture potential indicators. Combining these ecosystem drivers with vegetation structural formations data resulted in a continental dataset of 369,439 unique ecological facets at 90m resolution. This ecological facets mapping provides insight into biophysical variation across Australian ecosystems.
