This document discusses various technologies used for agricultural knowledge management. It describes 5 types of technologies: 1) Codification technology which involves coding knowledge into databases and systems for easy access and reuse, 2) Personalization technology which focuses on person-to-person knowledge sharing, 3) Digital technologies like databases, expert systems and networks which help evaluate and develop agricultural resources, 4) Multimedia technologies like radio, television and internet which are used to disseminate information to farmers, and 5) Collaborative technologies like intranets, internet and videoconferencing which enable knowledge sharing. The document provides details on each technology and their applications in agricultural extension.

Use of Information Communication Technologies Among Female Block Extension Ag...IOSRJAVS
Block Extension Agents are the extension workers who are specifically females and who carry out Gender sensitive issues for female farmers in Nigeria. They have the objective of seeing to the extension needs of the female farmers. The study assessed the use of Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) among Block Extension Agents (BEAs) in South-East Agro-Ecological Zone of Nigeria. Multi-stage sampling technique was used in the selection of the sample for the study. Data were collected with the aid of a structured questionnaire. The data was analysed using descriptive statistics. The mean age of the respondents was 40 years. All the BEAs sampled had formal education where more than half of them (51.04%) had first degree (B.Sc/B.Agric). The mean working experience of the respondents was 10 years. The mean income level of the respondents was N 33,875 per month. The extension agents claimed that twenty-five ICT facilities were available to them in varying degree. The attitude of the respondents towards the use of ICT facilities was positive (mean score=3.11). The extent of use of ICTs by the BEAs was low (mean score=1.45) which can be attributed to the low degree of availability of the ICTs than to their attitude towards the use of the ICT facilities. The BEAs identified thirteen (13) pressing problems that hindered their use of ICTs in varying degree and their major constraint (89.58%) as very limited access to the internet. It is recommended that the ADPs should provide such desirable working conditions that will encourage the BEAs to put in more years of their productive service to the ADPs; Workshops, conferences and seminars should be organized to train the BEAs in the use of ICTs which will improve efficiency in their work. ICT facilities should be made available to BEAs to enhance their productivity.

The use of internet and information communication
technology (ICT) infrastructures is an essential aspect of
learning, this is why a lot of information on entrepreneurship
career choices are available online. However, the emerging
growth in the use of information and communication
technologies and services towards entrepreneurship development
is a challenge for efficient information dissemination and
learning especially in rural areas. This paper pointed out an area
in which MCIU can use Information and Communication
Technology (ICT) resources/infrastructure it possess for
entrepreneurship development and poverty alleviation in its
community. Thereby, encouraging social and economic growth,
and overcome the gap between urban and rural areas
entrepreneurship development. An online learning platform,
using video may contribute greatly in rural entrepreneurship
development such as MCIU community. Some examples of some
programmes like learning make over, headgear tying, bead

knowledge (in documents, data bases and on-line
repositories)
External Knowledge can be acquired from outside the

• Farmer’s needs are much more diversified and the
knowledge required to address them is beyond the
capacity of the grass root level functionaries.

Conduct informal meetings, rather than formal meetings

relationships between consultants and organizational

Implement the use of metaphor, analogy and narrative in
order to express the consultants’ tacit knowledge.
Translate the expressed tacit knowledge by association
with reward system in exchange of energy and time.
Implement the “loose” or “network” organizational
structures. The loose organizational structures can
become a hierarchical structure when a project comes in
and become loose again when the project is completed.

technology (ie Microsoft Outlook) to store the expressed
tacit knowledge. Consultants should be encouraged to
access and use the “lessons learnt” that are kept in the
database.
