Encik Ismail Ahmad gave a speech to a class at the airport's emergency operations room about airport operations. He has worked in service and cleaning at the airport for 20 years. The airport was originally named the Jabatan PenerbanganAwal and was responsible for air traffic control and ensuring pilots had weather information to land safely. The airport receives 75-90 aircraft per day from domestic and international carriers and tourists mainly from the Middle East and China, but also Europe in fall and winter.

After that, with leading of EncikYusdi Bin Ismail, our class have been go to the
information center for waiting the staff, Encik Ismail Ahmad to give us speech about the
airport operation.
At almost 10.00am, En. Ismail had lead us to the emergency operation room to
give the speech. After giving salam, he introduce himself as the staff of Service and
Cleaning Department. He was having contract with the airport already 20 years. They
will do the tender 5 years once.
The airport at early was named as JabatanPenerbanganAwal 1992 by the
government. It jobbed to control the airways for the airplane to be landed. The airplane
that want to be landed need the approval of the control tower by the officer worked that
day. That is because they need to inform the pilot about the weather of that day, the pilot
need to landthe plane safety to promise the passenger life.
From the air to the land, aircraft takes three minutes totally landed. So, the airport
receives 75 to 90 aircraft from domestic and international a day. The aircraft were China
Airline, Singapore Airline(Tiger Air), Cathay Pacific, Thai International, Air Asia, MAS,
Melinda Air etc .The tourist that take this almost from Arabic Region and Republic of
China. But, from October to December the Europe country will visit us. The region over
Europe was winter so they come here for warming.
The length of the runway 11000ft and the width 46 meter. The clean income of
the airport was about 300 million ringgits. The income was the taxes from the company
that tender the shops to sell their product in the airport example Mc Donald, etc. actually
the thing in the airport was almost imported.
There are ongoing discussions between airport operator, about setting up
Malaysia's third low cost carrier terminal at the airport. In October 2008, Firefly was
urged by the Chief Minister of Penang, Lim Guan Eng to build a budget terminal, termed
"community terminal" in order to better cater for the needs of budget travellers. He also
called on the Federal Government and MAHB to consider renovating the current airport
terminal to higher standards.
