Encik Ismail Ahmad gave a speech to a class at the airport's emergency operations room about airport operations. He has worked in service and cleaning at the airport for 20 years. The airport was originally named the Jabatan PenerbanganAwal and was responsible for air traffic control and ensuring pilots had weather information to land safely. The airport receives 75-90 aircraft per day from domestic and international carriers and tourists mainly from the Middle East and China, but also Europe in fall and winter.
