Air pollution is defined as the addition of gases, chemicals, and particle matter into the atmosphere. It primarily comes from burning fossil fuels like coal, natural gas and petroleum. A study found air pollution causes 4% of deaths in the United States. Humans are the main cause through industry that burns large amounts of fuel, as well as vehicles, planes and boats that release carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and other pollutants. Air pollution has negative effects on air quality and contributes to the greenhouse effect. It can be reduced by lowering the quantity of fossil fuels burned.
