AIDS IN AFRICA, REPORTING BY BOAZ
TURYAHIKAYO SOCIAL WORKER, 2015 CURRENT
SITUATION.
INTRODUCATION
In the 1980’s the first AIDS patients were diagnosed. Soon it was discovered
that the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome was caused by a virus called
HIV. With the immune system destroyed by the HIV infection, these patients lost
their ability to fight other infectious diseases, and ultimately died. In Africa,
HIV/AIDS spreads among men and women alike through sexual contact. There
are many reasons why AIDS is affecting African people so strongly. Certain
aspects of African sexual practices contribute to the spread of HIV/AIDS in the
heterosexual population. For example, some Africanshave regular sex with more
than one person; men are often away from home f or long periods of time and
prostitutes provide for their sexual needs; many are still ignorant about the
disease and the need for safe sex; rape is a serious problem in many African
societies, poverty culture rituals for example when on ceremonies of remembering
those who died people are requested to sleep with other follow people to produce
and replace those who died, to a smaller extend climate also have contributed to
HIV/AIDS, where by some areasthat have a lot of coldness very many people
have spent much of the time sleeping with men and women due to fear of
coldness and so on.
Initially ARVs (Anti-Retroviral drugs) were too expensive for Africa so only a
minority of infected people were able to obtain them. Millionsof victims did not
receive any treatment at all, and death was their certain fate. In recent years the
price of ARVs has come down and many institutions and governments now
provide ARVs for free. With an assumed death rate of 2 million per year, the
AIDS epidemic is nevertheless still taking many lives in Africa. Despite the fact
that ARVs have saved and will save many lives, 15 million more AIDS deaths are
predicted in sub-Saharan Africa between 2007 and 2022.final due to poor
leadershipswith in some of African states characterized by corruption,
government phasing out the work for the NGO,S,by imposing heavy revenue
taxation have slowdown the movement of ARVS to all victims who need them.
AIDS AND ORPHANS
Losing loved ones and the grief it causes is part of the totality of symptoms
connected to HIV/AIDS. Especially for little children who have lost both
parents, this is very traumatic and more than anything else it is love and care
that they need. In most of African states large number of orphans children’s
have suffered a lot with no parental care, food, shelter, clothing, school fees,
materials to use at school, medical care other are being mistreated by their
guidains, parent and so on factor that has increased street children in African
cities and urban areas as well as HIV/AIDS. Very many orphans and
vulnerable children’s here in Africa have been raped and my special goes to all
organizations and donor funders who have helped to support these children’s
in Africa mostly in fighting for the human rights of these children’s.
HI,
Readers you can read about what am doing here in Africa, Uganda in
helping children who orphans as result of HIV/AIDS and children who are
living with HIV/AIDS.
Background
Save and Serve Children living with HIV/AIDS and Orphans (SSC Katuna) is a
not-for-profit Community Based Organization (CBO) that was established in
2008. Using volunteers SSC helps orphans on streets of Katuna boarder
between Uganda and Rwanda. Amongst the street children there is high
prevalence of AIDS/HIV. SSC Katuna was founded by Turyahikayo Boaz, with
the help of his mother Turyahabwa Peninah, who would provide lunch and
supper to these orphans that were picked from the street. With time these
orphans were taken to primary schools for education. Regretfully, when they
reached at secondary level they had to stop from there due to lack of funds to
pay for school fees. In 2009 Boaz started studies in community work at
university level which he successfully finished in 2013. Now he is available full
time to continue the work of SSC Katuna. To fulfill the goals of SSC Katuna
sponsors are highly needed to provide food, clothing and school fees for the1 45
orphans that are now under the care of SSC Katuna.
SSC KATUNA MISSION
Mission is to scale up the response of people to the needs of orphans in
Uganda, and to mitigate through spiritual, health, and socio-economic
assistance the needs of children who have been orphaned as result of
HIV/AIDS.
SSC KATUNA OBJECTIVES
 To combat HIV/AIDS and other diseases among children’s lives.
 To fight for the full rights of the children with in the community.
 To provide excellent technical skills in terms of education among the
children.
SSC KATUNA VISION AND GOALS.
a) By the year 2020 to have combat HIV/AIDS, and other diseases to
zero percent in among SSS KATUNA young children.
b) By the year 2020 to be having more than200orphans with in
secondary schools.
c) By the year 2020 to have finished fighting poverty and hunger
among SSS KATUNA children.
d) By the year 2020 to have built the private secondary school for
orphans and fully accommodations.
The following project proposal intends to create a sustainable project to
support the orphans under the care of SSC Katuna.
Once fully implemented, by the year 2020 these projects will be enable 200
orphans to attend secondary school and to be sufficiently clothed and
nurtured.
Thank you for your attention, yours
