What designers of artificial companions need to understand about biological ones
This document summarizes Aaron Sloman's presentation at AISB'08 on what designers of artificial companions need to understand about biological ones. Sloman discusses the difficulty of the task and argues that current AI is not capable of replicating the capabilities of young children. Nowadays “Artificial Intelligence” is everywhere! And rightly so, it does enable us to do really cool things, things we couldn’t even imagine doing just a decade ago. In fact, it sometimes just feels like magic. This ‘magic’ behind it is often powered by “Machine Learning”. But even “AI” has its limitations.
I’ll show examples where “AI” and ML have failed (sometimes with horrible consequences) and will explain why failures are unavoidable in ML but also mention what we can do to reduce them in the future.
Furthermore, I’ll showcase how current AI implementations discriminate against minorities and how that in some cases even leads to a higher risk of death for those groups.
I’ll cover the bias that humans introduce and I’ll explain how poor choice of data makes our world even more unjust than it already is.

The one source of inspiration to create this deck has been Douglas Kruger, the 5 times winner of the Southern African Championship for Public Speaking. I met Douglas in Mauritius during our national convention in June 2013 and learned a lot in just one hour.

10 simple tricks to become a better public speaker
Public speaking is an art. However, some tips and tricks will help get your message more impactful. It's not rocket science, just make those tips yours, and they may transform the way you are presenting.
These tips come from various sources and from 6 years of experience at Toastmasters, and 3 national public speaking contests I won. The one source of inspiration to create this deck has been Douglas Kruger, the 5 times winner of the Southern African Championship for Public Speaking. I met Douglas in Mauritius during our national convention in June 2013 and learned a lot in just one hour.

Your elevator pitch
This document provides guidance on creating an effective elevator pitch. An elevator pitch should be concise and compelling, capturing your key message in less than one minute. It should include who you are, what your company or product does, who your target audience is, the benefits for them, and what makes you unique. The elevator pitch should be polished by keeping it concise, improving it through practice, customizing it to different audiences, and delivering it conversationally.
8 surprising reasons to listen to your intuition
This document lists 8 reasons to listen to your intuition. It states that intuition comes from the unconscious mind which processes information parallel to conscious thought. It also notes that intuition is influenced by life experiences, reinforces confidence, helps process unconscious cues, can come to you while sleeping or distracted, takes a holistic mind-body approach, knows no age limits, and may be as good or better than analysis. The document encourages following intuition for success.

The expansion of AI services necessitates enhanced computational capabilities on edge devices. Temporal Event Neural Networks (TENNs), developed by BrainChip, represent a novel and highly efficient state-space network. TENNs demonstrate exceptional proficiency in handling multi-dimensional streaming data, facilitating advancements in object detection, action recognition, speech enhancement and language model/sequence generation. Through the utilization of polynomial-based continuous convolutions, TENNs streamline models, expedite training processes and significantly diminish memory requirements, achieving notable reductions of up to 50x in parameters and 5,000x in energy consumption compared to prevailing methodologies like transformers.
Integration with BrainChip’s Akida neuromorphic hardware IP further enhances TENNs’ capabilities, enabling the realization of highly capable, portable and passively cooled edge devices.
