This report, by the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP), provides price recommendations and non-price measures for mandated kharif crops for the 2017-18 market season. The CACP, set up in 1965, was originally called the Agricultural Prices Commission but was given its present name in 1985. It prescribes the minimum support price (MSP) for 23 agricultural commodities to the government. These include 7 cereals, 5 pulses, 7 oilseeds and 4 commercial crops. CACP is attached to the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India.
In order to arrive at the MSP, the CACP takes into account factors such as cost of production, the overall demand-supply situation, domestic and international prices, changes in input costs, inter-crop price parity, terms of trade, efficient use of resources, and the impact of MSPs on price levels.
The report furnishes most of its data in tables, graphs and charts.

In recent times, agricultural sector has returned to the forefront of development issues in Nigeria given its contribution to employment creation, sustainable food supply and provision of raw materials to other sectors of the economy. In lieu of that, this study examines the impact of agriculture on the economic growth in Nigeria using annual time series data covering the sample period of 1981 to 2018. To analyse the data collected, Autoregression Distributed Lag (ARDL) model through the bounds testing framework is employed to measure the presence of cointegrating relations between real GDP, agricultural productivity, labour force, and agricultural export. Results show the presence of both short-run and long-run relationship among the variables, and that agriculture has a positive and significant impact on economic growth in Nigeria. These findings inform the Nigerian government on the need to expedite labour force (human capital) and agricultural export (non-oil) development with the view to achieving sustainable growth and development. In addition, developing skills and competencies of labour force through capacity building in the agricultural sector will encourage research and development thereby increase the export size, hence essential for long-term growth.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

FAMINE 1975, (p.278)
“America will have to apply classical triage method- like doctors on the
battlefield trying to make the best out of minimum resources. She will
have to decide which countries to save and which countries to
sacrifice. Today India absorbs like a blotter 25% of the entire wheat
crop, no matter how one may adjust the present statistics and allows
for future increase in the American wheat crop ... It will be beyond US to
keep famine out of India during 1970. The reason ... of all the national
leadership, the Indian leadership comes close to being the most
childish and inefficient, perversely determined to cut the country’s
economic throat. THE MORAL: If other more deserving countries are to
be saved, India must be sacrificed.”
