Agriculture first began around 10,000-5,000 years ago in regions like Egypt, Mesopotamia, and India near rivers which provided water for crops. Early farmers grew crops like emmer and einkorn wheat, barley, peas, lentils, chickpeas, and flax. Wheat is believed to be the first crop domesticated and grown on a large scale. Animal husbandry, or the raising of animals on farms, began around 7000 BC with goats and then sheep and pigs were domesticated by 6500 BC.
