2. AENEAS
Aeneas took part in the Trojan War as leader of the Dardanians, as an
ally of the Trojans, and was the bravest hero on their side after
Hector. It seems, however, that at first he did not want to take part in
the war, because he waited for Priamus to reign on his throne after his
death, but when Achilles expelled him from Ida to Lyrnissos, which he
later destroyed, Aeneas was forced to flee to Troy to fight the Trojans.
Fighting in the Trojan War with Diomedes, Aeneas was saved only
thanks to the protection of his mother Aphrodite and Apollo, who
transported him to Pergamos for recovery, while in his conflict with
Achilles he was saved by the god Poseidon.

3. After the conquest and plunder of Troy,
Aeneas with some Trojans (who became
known as the "Aeneades") continued to
defend themselves in a district of the
city, until the Achaeans told them that
they were accepted as "subordinates",
that is, by agreement, to leave
undisturbed, with the permission of each
of them to take whatever they could get
their hands on from their property. And
while all the others filled and took sacks
of gold, silver, jewels, money, etc.,
Aeneas lifted on his shoulders his old and
helpless father, Aghisis, and carried him
out of the city. Aeneas transports his father

4. Then the Achaeans, admiring his act, allowed him to freely
take whatever else he wanted from their house. But he still
preferred nothing but the holy relics of the gods and family
heirlooms, which he considered superior to any other treasure.
Many times he risked his life for the sake of his parents and for
his piety to the gods. After that, the Achaeans told him that
they were willing to offer him any part of Troy he wanted to
live in, in complete safety.

continues, which
states that Aeneas
refused the offer

7. Traveling west, the Trojans stopped on the islands
where they encountered the Harpies, the terrifying
female monsters who had fought Jason and the
Argonauts. Continuing their journey, they found
themselves in Aktio, on the west coast of Greece,
where they competed in honor of Apollo.

8. The next step of their journey brought them to Vouthroto in
northwestern Greece, where they met the soothsayer Elenos,
the only living son of Priamus. Elenos gave Aeneas important
information about the rest of his journey. Sailing for Sicily,
the Trojans deceived the Cyclops and avoided Scylla and
Charybdis, who had also caused problems to Odysseus.

9. At the next stop, in Drepano, Aghisis died of
natural causes. Aeneas settled in Italy. There
it was believed that his grandchildren built
Rome, and in particular the children of his
daughter and Romulus.

10. Aeneas meets Dido
In North Africa the Trojans were invited to join a Phoenician
colony ruled by Queen Dido. Aeneas fell in love with Dido,
but the gods informed him that the fate of the Trojans was
not to unite with the Phoenicians, but with the Italians.

11. So Aeneas reluctantly set sail away. He left in
the middle of the night; when Dido found out
all that he swore eternal conflict between the
Carthaginians and the future Romans, and
then she committed suicide

12. Aeneas reigned a people mixed with Trojans and Italians and
founded a new city, Lavigne, near the future location of Rome, which
was later founded by Aeneas' descendants, Rome and Romulus.
Aeneas died just three years after his arrival in Italy. Some versions
say that he was killed in battle, while others say that he simply
disappeared after his victory. After his death, Aphrodite prayed to
the other gods and made her son immortal, as was done with other
heroes like Hercules.
