2. INTRODUCTION
• Telescopes collect vastly more light flux as compared to our eyes.
• Light collecting area is proportional to square of the diameter, hence bigger the telescope the better it
is.
• Sending huge bulky telescopes to orbit around the Earth is expensive.
• Hence, ground based telescopes.

• We can increase the size of the telescope.

• This is fulfilled by adaptive optics.
• Adaptive optics utilizes a secondary mirror that changes

and allows telescopes to approach diffraction limit.
