5. Influences Influences for our group that inspired us are the display of credits in “Get Carter” because it shows the credits aside from the story line and in areas that contain few people. Another influence is The X Files films/programmes because they have good mysteries and they have well thought out stories.

7. Media Institution The kind of media institution that might distribute our media product would be more likely to be a smaller cult film company working in Europe rather than a large Hollywood company. It is a film that relies more on storyline and does not require a huge budget. Our film is similar to existing films (that do not have a large budget) because we have been influenced by seeing many of these films. We ended up producing quite a typical thriller.

8. Media Merchandising There are few opportunities for merchandising in our film. It could be released as a book, CD soundtrack, and the usual DVD release and possibly on Blu-Ray (if it becomes popular enough). There is no real merchandising that can be made as it is not that sort of film.

9. Visual Style The general visual style of our film is intentionally artistic.We use almost a still photographic way of shooting, each shot could work equally well as a still photograph. We have not use a lot of props as the story line did not require them.

Target Audience Our ideal target audience would be a teenager of the male gender as the film is specific to males, I also think that many adults would like our film because it has a complex storyline and the way it is written. The film has quite a wide interest. Many people including teenagers would like the style of the film because of the mystery element (similar to the Lost series) of not revealing information straight away.

11. Similarities I think our film is similar to The X Files in the way people go missing or die and how the film starts by dropping you in the middle of something important. The X files appeals to older people, as it is a clever programme/film with complex stories.

12. Influencing The Audience A scene that could influence the audience is the scene when the teenagers witness the woman being murdered. The scene is meant to surprise the audience but not let them know what is actually happening.

13. Techniques We filmed the video to make it feel like the audience was watching from the two teenagers perspectives in the flashback. This is because the flashback is actually just the teenagers statement of what happened so it is filmed like it is being recalled. The impact of this is that the audience feel like they are witnessing the murder too. When we filmed the office scene, the audience member would feel like they are only hearing one side of the conversation, and that they are not meant to hear what is being said. The impact of this is that the audience feel like they are finding out important information which they need to know.

14. The Equipment The cameras we used were quite efficient as they did what was required. They were also very easy to use and quite simple to operate. The main disadvantage with the camera would be the fact that it still uses a tape system, which is a bit outdated as now most cameras now use memory cards or DVD. Whilst filming we did have a few minor problems but most of these were just human error. One problem was that the recording was slightly rushed, as we were working to tight deadlines and the recording required all four of us to be present. We resolved these problems by re-filming any footage that did not go according to plan. We were allowed to use new equipment for editing, these were the Macs, they helped simplify the editing process and were easier to use than a PC. Working through the editing process made us realise how important the editing can be and reasonable time must be left for this in future filming.

15. Preliminary Work We did a lot of preliminary work for our thriller, we all watched films and conducted our own research. We all shared the work of drawing out the storyboard, we all had ideas for what our thriller should be about, and we chose the most suitable one. Our use of shot types became more varied as the film developed. Originally we had a limited range of camera angles. As the production progressed we added more to make it more interesting. I feel more confident with the equipment now through use. I think our end product has fulfilled the requirements of the task and I am proud of what we achieved.
