In this satirical and humorousstory, the writer tries to
show the hypocrisy prevalent in the German society. He
satirically presents the German culture which stresses the
value of action, hard work and seriousness when, in reality,
German can largely remain inactive and unproductive.
The author once visits Alfred Wunsiedel’s soap
factory in search of a job. He found the whole factory was
built with glass bricks and well-lit rooms. During the
interview the writer was asked to answer some foolish and
ridiculous questions which he answered satirically.
Although he gave funny and humorous answers in the
interview, the writer got the job. He repeatedly heard his
boss saying one slogan “let’s have some action!” and the
employees “Action will be taken”.
The writer’s boss dies and during his funeral, the
funeral directoris very impressed by the writer’s mourning
and offers him the job of professional mourneron the spot.
The next day the writer resigns from his factory jobs and
becomes a professional mourner.
