Achilles' mother Thetis plunged the baby Achilles into the river Styx to make him invulnerable, but held him by the heel so it remained vulnerable. In the Trojan War, Achilles was the greatest warrior but was fatally wounded by an arrow to his heel, the only part of his body that could be injured, dying from the wound. After his death, Achilles was honored by the Achaeans for his bravery in battle.
