- Every social entrepreneur is looking for capital to build and scale their impact. However, the traditional forms of capital, debt and equity aren’t typically right for many enterprises. For instance, for equity to work you been to have an exit happen, you either go public or you sell your company. That is the only way investors get their money back. Most social enterprises won’t go public and many social entrepreneurs don’t want to sell their organization. Our Impact Capital team is innovating other financial instruments to help social entrepreneurs get money and investors get their money returned, with some return. The demand dividend is being piloted in several countries right now. It is a form of debt that is friendly to SEs. There is a honeymoon period where social entrepreneurs don’t need to pay back and after the honeymoon the entrepreneur pays back based on free cashflow. Therefore, if you aren’t making money you aren’t going further into debt.
