Morristown High School ACE Mentors group presented thier design solution to a Breezy Point, NY community redesign. This is a project created by High School Students. 2013.

2. WELCOME
Due to the natural disaster, Hurricane Sandy, we decided to rebuild homes
and a community center for the town Breezy Point.
• Breezy Point sits on a peninsula, making it vulnerable
• Susceptible to high levels of flooding, winds and spread of fire
• Goal: To use materials to prevent fire and withstand hurricanes
• The community center was created to involve everyday life and
recovery in case of another disaster.

Three factors were taken into consideration when building our homes:
• Flammability: Proximity to other houses
• Water: Record levels
• Winds: Cripple Structures

• Wind-Proof Windows
• Storm Shutters
• Elevation on 8’ foot stilts and above flood plain
• 14 inch reinforced steel walls
• Space between houses to prevent fire

Fitness center – treadmills, ellipticals,
bicycles, free-weights, and a multitude of
machines and benches provide all a person
Storage area available for gym, fitness, and pool needs to exercise
storage
• Includes pool heaters and filters, as well as
the facility boilers
Locker rooms for men and women provide
showers, bathrooms, and changing areas
The pool is a 5-lane, 25-meter pool that will
service lessons and casual swimming, with
lifeguard stands available
