« No immersion without design!»
With Immersion technology soon available at affordable cost, the number of immersive experiences will grow exponentially, and this in all areas. How can we make sure that the proposed experiences are systematically amazing, and longlasting, that they are useful both for those who live them and for those who offer them? No other way than to invest systematically on design, i.e. on designers, to live up to the promise.

What is Social Engineering? An illustrated presentation.Pratum
Social engineering relies profoundly on human interaction and often involves the misleading of employees into violating their organization’s security procedures. Humans are naturally helpful, but when it comes to protecting an organization’s security, being helpful to an outsider can do more harm than good.
These slides discuss social engineering, the most common attack methods, and the best means for defending against a social engineering attack.

How do you successfully pitch your business to investors? As an entrepreneur and venture capitalist, I've been on both sides of the funding process. Here are 7 myths of startup financing -- and the truths you should follow.
Want To Open A Small Business? Move To One Of These 25 Cities. When I Work
Looking to launch your next venture in a business-friendly climate? If you’re lucky enough to live near one of the following communities, you’re in luck. If not, consider whether a move will give your business the best odds possible of succeeding.
Here are the 25 cities worth moving to if you want to launch a startup:
Best practices for MySQL High AvailabilityColin Charles
The MariaDB/MySQL world is full of tradeoffs, and choosing a high availability (HA) solution is no exception. This session aims to look at all the alternatives in an unbiased way. Preference is of course only given to open source solutions.
How do you choose between: asynchronous/semi-synchronous/synchronous replication, MHA (MySQL high availability tools), DRBD, Tungsten Replicator, or Galera Cluster? Do you integrate Pacemaker and Heartbeat like Percona Replication Manager? The cloud brings even more fun, especially if you are dealing with a hybrid cloud and must think about geographical redundancy.
What about newer solutions like using Consul for MySQL HA?
When you’ve decided on your solution, how do you provision and monitor these solutions?
This and more will be covered in a walkthrough of MySQL HA options and when to apply them.

What Does Your Smart Car Know About You? Strata London 2016Charles Givre
In the last few years, auto makers and technology companies have introduced a variety of devices to connect cars to the Internet and use this connectivity to gather data about the vehicles’ activity, but these connected cars gather a considerable amount of data about their owners’ activities beyond what one might expect. In aggregate and combined with other datasets, this data represents a significant degradation of personal privacy as well as a potential security risk. As auto insurers and local governments start to require this data collection, consumers should be aware of the security risks as well as the potential privacy invasions associated with this unique type of data collection.
In a follow-up to his 2015 session at Strata + Hadoop World NYC, Charles Givre examines data gathered from sensors in automobiles. Charles focuses on what kinds of data cars are gathering and asks critical questions about whether the benefits this data provides outweigh the risks and cost to personal privacy—the inevitable result of this data collection.

Launch Your Streaming Platforms in MinutesRoshan Dwivedi
The claim of launching a streaming platform in minutes might be a bit of an exaggeration, but there are services that can significantly streamline the process. Here's a breakdown:
Pros of Speedy Streaming Platform Launch Services:
No coding required: These services often use drag-and-drop interfaces or pre-built templates, eliminating the need for programming knowledge.
Faster setup: Compared to building from scratch, these platforms can get you up and running much quicker.
All-in-one solutions: Many services offer features like content management systems (CMS), video players, and monetization tools, reducing the need for multiple integrations.
Things to Consider:
Limited customization: These platforms may offer less flexibility in design and functionality compared to custom-built solutions.
Scalability: As your audience grows, you might need to upgrade to a more robust platform or encounter limitations with the "quick launch" option.
Features: Carefully evaluate which features are included and if they meet your specific needs (e.g., live streaming, subscription options).
Examples of Services for Launching Streaming Platforms:
Muvi [muvi com]
Uscreen [usencreen tv]
Alternatives to Consider:
Existing Streaming platforms: Platforms like YouTube or Twitch might be suitable for basic streaming needs, though monetization options might be limited.
Custom Development: While more time-consuming, custom development offers the most control and flexibility for your platform.
Overall, launching a streaming platform in minutes might not be entirely realistic, but these services can significantly speed up the process compared to building from scratch. Carefully consider your needs and budget when choosing the best option for you.
Hand Rolled Applicative User ValidationCode KataPhilip Schwarz
Could you use a simple piece of Scala validation code (granted, a very simplistic one too!) that you can rewrite, now and again, to refresh your basic understanding of Applicative operators <*>, <*, *>?
The goal is not to write perfect code showcasing validation, but rather, to provide a small, rough-and ready exercise to reinforce your muscle-memory.
Despite its grandiose-sounding title, this deck consists of just three slides showing the Scala 3 code to be rewritten whenever the details of the operators begin to fade away.
The code is my rough and ready translation of a Haskell user-validation program found in a book called Finding Success (and Failure) in Haskell - Fall in love with applicative functors.

Need for Speed: Removing speed bumps from your Symfony projects ⚡️Łukasz Chruściel
No one wants their application to drag like a car stuck in the slow lane! Yet it’s all too common to encounter bumpy, pothole-filled solutions that slow the speed of any application. Symfony apps are not an exception.
In this talk, I will take you for a spin around the performance racetrack. We’ll explore common pitfalls - those hidden potholes on your application that can cause unexpected slowdowns. Learn how to spot these performance bumps early, and more importantly, how to navigate around them to keep your application running at top speed.
We will focus in particular on tuning your engine at the application level, making the right adjustments to ensure that your system responds like a well-oiled, high-performance race car.
