Bookkeeping is the process of recording financial transactions such as purchases, sales, receipts and payments for a business or organization. While bookkeeping records these day-to-day transactions, accounting provides additional analysis of the business's financial position using accounts payable, accounts receivable, balance sheets, budgets, earnings, cash flow, income, and taxes. Bookkeeping forms the basis of accounting but is not the same as accounting which analyzes the financial data.
