The document summarizes the results of the 2007 EOSDIS User Survey. Some key findings include:
- Customer satisfaction with NASA EOSDIS was rated at 75 out of 100, on par with other government agencies and e-business sectors.
- The most commonly used data formats were HDF-EOS/HDF at 73% but users preferred NetCDF and GeoTIFF which have more cross-platform support.
- While most documentation was available online, 12% of users could not find needed documentation on data product descriptions, formats, or algorithms, resulting in lower customer satisfaction scores.
- The top data sources were MODIS imagery at 67% and ASTER imagery at 24%, indicating these missions provide the
The document contains ratings data showing that HBO has significantly higher prime-time ratings on Saturday nights than the major broadcast networks, with an average 49-67% higher rating in HBO homes over the past 16 years. It also lists that HBO has won 15 Sports Emmys since 1992 for programs such as Real Sports with Bob Costas and Cris Collinsworth.
The document discusses semantic search and how it differs from traditional keyword search. It describes adding shallow linguistics and ontologies to improve search. Semantic search uses ontologies to represent domain vocabulary and documents' content to match concepts rather than keywords. Ontologies can help explore a domain, formulate queries, and interpret queries based on their semantic meaning. The personalized ontology is updated based on the user's search behavior and documents they view.
The document discusses e-accessibility and the importance of making websites accessible to disabled users. It notes that while internet access in the UK is high, many websites fail accessibility standards, excluding over 10 million disabled people. Ensuring accessibility makes ethical, legal, and economic sense by expanding a company's potential customer base. The document outlines Hounslow's efforts to improve its website accessibility through features like adjustable text sizes, contrast controls, and compliance with WAI standards. It emphasizes accessibility as an ongoing process requiring user testing and engagement.

Accessibility & Online Customer Service DeliveryZoe Laycock
The document discusses the importance of making websites accessible to disabled users. It notes that 81% of UK websites tested failed basic accessibility standards, limiting the potential of 10 million disabled people in the UK. The document outlines a two-phase approach taken by Hounslow Council to improve website accessibility and usability, including implementing accessibility features, training staff, and performing usability testing. It emphasizes that accessibility is important ethically, legally under the Disability Discrimination Act, and economically to maximize customer service delivery and potential revenue.
The document summarizes the Government of Canada's Wireless Portal, which provides key government services and information optimized for wireless devices. The portal was launched in 2002 and has grown to include services from multiple government departments and agencies. Usage has increased, averaging 204,000 visits per month. The portal aims to improve mobile access to government and keep pace with technological changes. Future plans include redesigning the navigation to make it easier to access popular "interactive" services like border wait times and weather updates from any wireless device.

The document discusses developing an evaluation method for assessing the quality of internet connectivity for global travelers using tourist data SIM cards. It proposes that ISOC chapters could work together to 1) develop an evaluation method using techniques like Augmented Traffic Control to measure experience scores on popular apps under different speeds, 2) discuss the method on mailing lists, 3) form a SIG to further the work, and 4) eventually build a global test platform by providing testing devices in chapters around the world to report on tourist SIM quality monthly. The goal is to provide travelers a reasonable priced option with good enough quality internet when roaming globally.
1. The document discusses ASPO, an analysis of operational programme websites conducted by Formez. ASPO aims to evaluate and improve regional operational programme websites through self-evaluation and identifying best practices.
2. ASPO was developed based on EU regulations and guidelines. It includes 58 indicators across 5 themes to comprehensively assess websites. Website administrators provide scores in each indicator based on presences and quality of information.
3. The results of ASPO are intended to help standardize regional operational programme websites and drive convergence towards an ideal model through comparisons and identifying areas for improvement.

This document discusses moving from a data-centric to a knowledge-centric approach for geospatial data and services. It proposes using core geospatial ontologies and semantic technologies like OWL and SPARQL to encode conceptual models, business rules, and formal semantics. This would allow automated reasoning and flexible integration of data as knowledge is shared through a semantic layer. Example applications like semantic gazetteers are presented to illustrate how existing services could be enhanced by adding semantics. The document outlines next steps like standardizing core ontologies and developing semantic profiles and services. The overall approach aims to reduce costs and burdens on users by making geospatial data and knowledge more accessible and interpretable through shared formal representations.

OJP data from firms like Vicinity Jobs have emerged as a complement to traditional sources of labour demand data, such as the Job Vacancy and Wages Survey (JVWS). Ibrahim Abuallail, PhD Candidate, University of Ottawa, presented research relating to bias in OJPs and a proposed approach to effectively adjust OJP data to complement existing official data (such as from the JVWS) and improve the measurement of labour demand.
"Does Foreign Direct Investment Negatively Affect Preservation of Culture in the Global South? Case Studies in Thailand and Cambodia."
Do elements of globalization, such as Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), negatively affect the ability of countries in the Global South to preserve their culture? This research aims to answer this question by employing a cross-sectional comparative case study analysis utilizing methods of difference. Thailand and Cambodia are compared as they are in the same region and have a similar culture. The metric of difference between Thailand and Cambodia is their ability to preserve their culture. This ability is operationalized by their respective attitudes towards FDI; Thailand imposes stringent regulations and limitations on FDI while Cambodia does not hesitate to accept most FDI and imposes fewer limitations. The evidence from this study suggests that FDI from globally influential countries with high gross domestic products (GDPs) (e.g. China, U.S.) challenges the ability of countries with lower GDPs (e.g. Cambodia) to protect their culture. Furthermore, the ability, or lack thereof, of the receiving countries to protect their culture is amplified by the existence and implementation of restrictive FDI policies imposed by their governments.
My study abroad in Bali, Indonesia, inspired this research topic as I noticed how globalization is changing the culture of its people. I learned their language and way of life which helped me understand the beauty and importance of cultural preservation. I believe we could all benefit from learning new perspectives as they could help us ideate solutions to contemporary issues and empathize with others.
Fabular Frames and the Four Ratio ProblemMajid Iqbal
Digital, interactive art showing the struggle of a society in providing for its present population while also saving planetary resources for future generations. Spread across several frames, the art is actually the rendering of real and speculative data. The stereographic projections change shape in response to prompts and provocations. Visitors interact with the model through speculative statements about how to increase savings across communities, regions, ecosystems and environments. Their fabulations combined with random noise, i.e. factors beyond control, have a dramatic effect on the societal transition. Things get better. Things get worse. The aim is to give visitors a new grasp and feel of the ongoing struggles in democracies around the world.
Stunning art in the small multiples format brings out the spatiotemporal nature of societal transitions, against backdrop issues such as energy, housing, waste, farmland and forest. In each frame we see hopeful and frightful interplays between spending and saving. Problems emerge when one of the two parts of the existential anaglyph rapidly shrinks like Arctic ice, as factors cross thresholds. Ecological wealth and intergenerational equity areFour at stake. Not enough spending could mean economic stress, social unrest and political conflict. Not enough saving and there will be climate breakdown and ‘bankruptcy’. So where does speculative design start and the gambling and betting end? Behind each fabular frame is a four ratio problem. Each ratio reflects the level of sacrifice and self-restraint a society is willing to accept, against promises of prosperity and freedom. Some values seem to stabilise a frame while others cause collapse. Get the ratios right and we can have it all. Get them wrong and things get more desperate.
